Anyone Else Looking Forward To Your Future With An English Degree? What to look forward to after obtaining a BA in English?

Going to be my third year in university, had my tough times, bad grades, redone classes, good grades, average student life, just started P90x, tried Electrical and Mechanical engineering, and now I'm at the crossroads of what it is I'm going to major in.

A bit confusing, but I went in wanting to be an Electrical engineer and basically failed at it after a couple of their courses. Mechanical engineering was easier, and apparently more my cup of tea, but would have ended up being insane during Thermodynamics. I'm still an exploratory/undecided major with all of my general studies out of the way (40 something credits) and now I'm thinking of settling down with an English BA and go back to school for what engineering or whatever I may be ready for down the road.

Anyone that is a current English major and liking it, can you please give me some advice as to what may be the hardest part within the major and possibly things to look forward to after graduating with this degree?

I'm an english major and I love it after many many different decisions and major switches lol.

I look forward to teaching english abroad and doing something with writing/journalism perhaps.
I also plan to go back later and get certified to teach elementary school, after I'm done teaching abroad/traveling/whatnot

I'm interested in knowing more about majoring in English, too... I'm entering this fall as an English major at UCLA, and I'm still skeptical as to whether I should either double major or change my major completely. At the time of my application-filing, I chose English 'cause it was certainly a subject I enjoy. smile.gif But we'll see... Good luck with everything though!

I'm an English major in my final year (but I'm double majoring with Linguistics), and I do enjoy it. Although, I like to refer to it as a "do-nothing" major. It's a "do-nothing" because you can do anything with it. It certainly won't get you a specific job, but the skills you acquire are useful in any sort of work.

I'm planning on teaching abroad for a year or two and then doing graduate studies after.

As for what to look forward to in your studies... well, reading. Lots of close reading and a bit of writing, unless you're doing creative writing courses, which would then mean a bit more writing. My school doesn't really have any specific aspect of English literature that they want me to focus on. I have "areas" that I need to fulfill, but other than that, I can take any course I like, which can be nice.

It's very subjective, the marking that is. But that can't be helped.

Hmm, vague, I know, but really, what are you thinking of when you think "English major"?
