I've been staying on my computer for 5-10 hours a day every day for the past 2 weeks. My eyes have started to feel weak. I can see fine, but they just feel weak and get teary sometimes. I know that I obviously need to stop going on the computer so much, but I wanted to know what you guys think about. Also, how long should a regular person stay on the computer if they go on every day?

Yep, I've been using my comp for around 5 hrs straight too for the past few years since I got my own comp. It screwed up my vision real bad. I no longer have 20/20 vision. I have no idea how long a regular person should stay on the comp each day though.

I think you should give your eyes a break for 5-15 minutes for every 2 or 1 hours.

I have 20/20 eyesight.

I spend most of my time in front of the screen.
I stay on my computer 8 hours a day at work, well, minus restroom break.
At home, I stay for another 2-3 hours. If not in front of computer, I watch TV for hours. Sometimes I do both at the same time.

Also, distance between your eyes and your screen also can affect your eyesight too.
Sit up straight instead of leaning to the computer screen !!
Staring at the screen too close can ruin your eyesight faster.

I used to spend 10+ hours on the computer each day. I still spend a fair amount of time. It wrecked my perfect vision .

I guess that when you're tired, your eyes hurt and so does your back... then it's too much lol

for me one hour and half is the endurable amount of time to spend in front of the computer. I sometimes do not respect this limit.. but I'm trying to change habits.

Outside of my room there are so many things to do-- why do I have to watch the world trough a monitor if I can face it in reality? XD

Keeping your eyes about 6-12 inches (I suppose 12 to be safe since I'm not sure the rule of thumb for this) away from the screen and look outside of your window or any opportunity you can take to look at a particular object far away from you (for example, your neighbors changing across the street NO I'M KIDDING) and do that for a few minutes and take a pee/food/any break. I've been pretty much on the computer, sometimes for days straight (this usually happened when I was homeschooled), since I was nine years old. It's funny because my vision didn't end up screwing up until I was about 16. Now it's constantly deteriorating despite that I'm not really on the computer anymore (not more than an hour or two most of the time).

So to answer your question, three to four hours I think is too long for me (without a break). As long as you take 15-20 minute breaks every half hour to an hour, I think you'll be fine.

oh I definitely take breaks, but I spend around ~8 hours a day on the computer on school days, and if I don't go out on the weekends, possibly up to 10 hours in a day

sigh i have no life. i'm almost always on the computer D: i'm surprised i have 20/20 vision, though it'll probably get worse later on in my life haha. in the summer i could be on the computer from when i wake up until i go to sleep. on schooldays it's probably when i get out until i go to sleep which is like 7 hours LOL. sadness :[

For me I usually take 20min breaks every hr.. and everyday Im on for about 4-6 hours.. I used to never take breaks and my eyes would start straining and stuff. so now i take a lot of breaks

A go on the computer for a long time but the hours varies.
I used to have 20/20 eyesight but I guess the computer made my eyes bad and from reading to many fics hehe.

i dont have time to spend more than 2 hours haha..
but fyi, ur computer cannot afffect ur vision my eye doctor told me its all genetics!
