So my acqauintence's dad drove me home today.
When I first saw him I said "Hello". ( I didn't know that he spoke canto until later during the car ride.)
But after they reached to my house, I said " dou jie a sook". (aka thank you uncle) Was it suppose to be "do jie a sook sook"?? Was it rude to just say "sook" once?
And was it rude to say "hello" at the beginning??
I didn't even introduce myself. x_x

not rude at all. Hongkies even say "dou jie uncle" I even used to call my ex-gf's dad that, "uncle". And it's your acquaintance's responsibility to introduce you

Lol, for men it doesn't matter, but don't call a woman "a sum". It's a term for late middle aged women.
You know people don't like admitting their older.
Just say, "Bak Fu, Bak Mo"

I think it's fine. As long as you said "hello" and "thank-you" you're good lol.

^ Agreed with above.
Not your fault that you didn't know that the father spoke Canto - and it's not like it was rude or anything. You're fine. xD
