I am a Canadian and I want to move to the USA. Does anyone have experience in immigration? I'm talking about employment, visas, taxes, residence, etc?

Hm...

It really depends on your qualifications. I'm a Canadian who moved to the US for school and business. I highly suggest you look for a company who is willing to higher and foreign "specialist" and is willing to pay for the visa and such to bring you over. A lot of people just try to pick up and leave and hopefully things work out but in this economy it's the worst thing you can do.

Well if you move you basically have no credits there. How will you get a bank to finance your loans for a mortgage? Our SIN numbers aren't the same as their SSN's. It kind of sucks. I couldn't even finance my own car I had to get my Uncle to do it for me.

I thought Canada is better over there. Why do you want to move over here? It's not like you like this place much.
TJP, that I like.

Uh, think about it. Your question is so broad it's insane asking someone to explain every detail about the immigration process and job opportunities in the US. Why dont you try to look at the 5th link from the search...it says Canadian Immigration Forum: Canada's immigrants employment experiences. Move your mouse over and click on it. SO SIMPO

I agree.

Yes...this is Soompi not the immigration office forums. If your note willing to put in the effort to research for yourself that what makes you thing others will do it for you?

We are not here to answer all your questions but give simple advice. I'm only giving you advice from my past experiences and I'm recommending that you search for a job first before you pack up and leave, unless of course you're a millionaire.

You should find a job first before moving to the US. Since you are a Canadian citizen, US employer can sponsor a TN visa for you which should be quite easy. You just need to present the documents at the border and you should be able get your visa right then & there. You can then apply for your US social security card and open a bank account, etc. It will be pretty hard at first, because you have to establish your US credit history from scratch.

I think it's going to be tough to try to find a job during this time. A lot of US companies are laying off US employees right now and I think it would be difficult for you to find something decent....I don't mean to sound discouraging, but............GOOD LUCK!

No kidding. If not for the swine flu scare, I would have illegally immigrated to Mexico and just pressed my luck making piñatas for a living or trying my hand at being a luchador like Rey Mysterio or my idol Nacho Libre.

How's your CV like?

Most likely you will have to come over on a TN or H1-B. But it's difficult with most recruiting being frozen right now.

Moving to the US is a pain. But if you have accounts with Amex, etc. they will transfer your credit history.. making things a bit easier.

But really, Soompi isn't the best place to look for this information. The government websites are pretty streamlined and informative.. recommend you check it out first and ask any other questions that cant' be answered here.
