I don't go to stony, but usually for premed requriements you can do either 1 year of calculus at college, or if you get a 5 on the calc BC ap test, you can use that and 1 semester of multivariable calculus to fulfill it.

Usually it's best to keep you're gpa up if you're premed, so I would recommend you study like crazy for the calc ap test, understand the material, ace it or fail it, whatever, and just take a full year of calculus again in college, where you will hopefully do well because you already know the material and learned it once. This does not work if you just stop studying and fail the calc test because you will not know anything next year

^--You don't have to get a 5 on the AP test for the credit to count. It all depends on the requirements at your university; some universities will accept 3s and 4s too.

Achieving the minimum score for your university on the AP Calculus AB test will count as one semester of calculus whereas achieving the minimum score for your university on the AP Calculus BC test will count as two semesters (Calculus I and II). However, if you plan on majoring in something in science, like biology, you may be required to take an extra semester of maths on top of the two calculuses (calculi?)

Even if you don't get credit from the exam it's good to have that background for calculus II in college. Those of us who already had a good calc foundation did significantly better than those who didn't.

If you're talking about the BC test and you haven't taken the AB test, I'd say go ahead and take it, since like l3oosh said, you just need to make the minimum for your college.

I'm an engineer and a lot of my friends are premed either in science or engineering, and it's just much easier to schedule your classes if you have the two calcs out of the way. Taking placement tests for math is also just a pain.
