Haven't heard much about it but I would assume it's not as good as the big league G-tech or even southern poly.

Depends on what you are pursuing the degree for. If you want to be an engineer post-bacc, then of course a Technical institute would be favorable. But if it's just a degree in engineering you want I don't think UGA would necessarily be bad.

Approach it cautiously, contact their department or people who are already in the CS/engineer program and see what they like about it. All the GA schools approach the degree differently. Here at Emory the Intro CS class is basic Java programming, at Tech my friend said it was Python, but her brother at G-state had to take like 3-4 baby computer classes (like word processing) before they even learned a language. I don't know anyone who is on that path at UGA so I can't speak for it.

All around though, UGA is a good school. So if you didn't get into G-tech, there's no shame in going to Georgia. What other options do you have?

Interesting. Never knew Southern Poly was so highly reputable.
I won't bother since I won't read the rules and they won't accommodate.

These days, no job is guaranteed, but good luck with your future plans anyways. I myself being a math major had to take CS once and it was surprisingly difficult. So to me, a CS degree is impressive regardless.

Only in terms of technical institutes. After all it makes sense to go to a school that specializes in your major rather than go to a big name/ state school that has a mediocre program.

If you perform well (equal or better than g-tech), then of course you have a shot.

Hey, I go to UGA, and one my closest friends is a computer science major... he used to be a chem major and switched mid-sophomore year, and he said that uga's program is decent. Idk, this kid is like a genius at math, science, computers, etc, but he's not like passing with flying colors, so I'm guessing the classes are kind of hard.

GT is definitely better for that kind of major, so an option could be to just get your basic credits (like math, english, history, etc) which you need for any degree, and transfer to tech.

Also, anyone has a chance to get into a top grad school if you do well at your undergraduate school. You are competing with kids that come from GT, Harvard, Ole Miss, EVERYWHERE. It all depends on how well YOU do, not necessarily the name of your undergrad school.

couldnt find the exact percentage, but i'm thinking maybe 6-7%
which could be a lot for 40,000 students
I think they have enough though

I don't think there's discrimination. Plenty of Asians get accepted to UGA but decide to go to another college (a lot of my friends just used it as a safety/backup school). It's probably 81% white because white people decided to take the acceptance more. And from my experience, the minorities that went to UGA were pretty white-washed anyways.

Not sure how many international students are at UGA but there's tons at the other GA schools.

They don't discriminate. It's just most Asians in Georgia end up at Georgia Tech if not some out of state school. A few of my friends go to UGA, I got accepted into UGA, but I ended up far away.
I'd say if you want to go compsci it might be in your best interest to transfer to Gatech... but as we all know, tech is a lot harder than uga, so be prepared...
and if you had the same gpa as a tech kid and the same credentials, they'll take the tech kid... but either, MIT's hard to get into so work really hard, take classes you can handle, and do a loootttt of extracurriculars. Good luck!

thanks. im planning to go to tech too. just waiting for the waitlist thing to see if they accept me. so rite now im using uga as back up.
another question. does it matter if ur international student and ur on the waitlist. are they more likely to reject u if ur international?
