i decided to reboot my computer... but apparently, my mom threw out all the CDs that came along with it. o__o

so. how would i go about rebooting it? do i need a specific rebooting disc (my computer's a compaq) or can i just use another one that was designed for another computer (i.e. dell)?

OR would there be any place i could.... download it if it's possible... please tell me.. T__T

my computer's been shutting off every 10-40 minutes and it's annoying the heck outta me. T___T

er... i hope that made sense. ^^;;

It might be safer to use disks specifically for your computer.
What you can do is go on Compaq's website, and check if they disks that will reformat your computer. Make sure to check the model of your computer when you look for the disks. The disks should only cost around 15 dollars.

This is when you need to have friends and friends with connections... You know to get a XP disk. You can live without those recovery disks but you will at least need the XP disk and visit compaq's website for drivers for your computer. Yeah, you dont need anythign specific. A dell disk wont work in your compaq. The compaq disks wont work on a dell. They are cruel like that.

T_T why couldnt cute girls ever ask me for computer help in real life...

shutting off in 10 - 40 mins? maybe you should open up your case and make sure all your fans are spinning and have a check on the power cables too

anyway, if you do end up wanting to reformat, make sure you get all the drivers for your computer model and save them on a CD or something first... or ask compaq to send you a reinstallation disk

Hahahhahahaha laugh.gif

i derno about you awdark. But i get pretty annoyed when i get a call from a girl and i get all excited its like
"hey Drake..how are you today?" and im like WOW A PHONE CALL! HEY YEAH IM GOOD! and then she says " yeh cool..urmm ive got a problem with my comput............"

But yer, to the original poster. It seems you dont have a clue on what to do. You cant simply just put in a disk and it will fix everything. You are gonna need to backup ur files, reformat windows. re install programs, softwares and drivers and then your comp will be fixed. Since you dont have any computer friends. You might have to take itinto a shop and get ripped off..

OR ... you could pm awdark and ask him really nicely if he could be a helpdesk, tech support guy for 1 or 2 days and he will take you into how to fix ur comp step by step .

OR you could give what boka suggested. Just open ur case. Get A brush. Ones that you use for painting..a light one. make sure its clean and just dust out all the dust and mold in your computer..you can use a vacume cleaner too if you like but just becareful and delicate. You can give that a go..its not that hard. That might fix ur problem. If it still continues to turn off every now and then. You might have either os problem or hardware problem(power supply or faulty mobo or seperate comp parts that are just worn out) let us know what you wanna do.

laugh.gif hahaha well you see thats the first step... then maybe you can have them help you wtih connections and stuff like that wink.gif

Boka's diagnostic is one that I forgot about... well was too lazy to consider crazy.gif. I say the majority of the people out there don't maintain their computers the way I do... I dust off the insides, clean all the fans, and try to do a disk cleanup at least once every two weeks happy.gif Yeah yeah.. I wash my car about once every two weeks too.
Anyways, thats something to consider, unscrew or pop open the case and turn on the computer. Make sure everything that should spin, spins, and if anything is clumpy with dust... get a can of air and dust it off.

In theory a smart person could read the dumped data then figure out the cause of the crash.

It usually just means windows was looking for something that should have been in the ram but wasn't there. It could be as simple as corruped files or bad drivers to something as annoying as bad ram.

WoW first time in 4 years... I killed two computers in 4 years... X_X
I kinda torture my computers.

you might need to check for new updates for windows. If you have a legit copy of windows. Simply goto START/CONTROL PANEL/ And on the left hand side in the bar there should be a thing called windows updates click that and follow through.

If you dont have a legit copy then you might have trouble getting the updates.

This may or may not help. I use to get the physical mem dump but it hasnt poped up anymore. But thats cause i did a bunch of scans(spyware scan, virus scan etc) and updated drivers, mobo drivers, video card drivers etc.

One reason why i kept getting a certain bluescreen on one of my other comps was because it had old service pack 1 stuff. Once i updated that, it was fine.

awdark, what do you do to ur comps? mem tests? prime?
ive never done those before. Only turtore was leaving it on for maybe 3 days in a row..other then that i cant leave it on to much its using a Vantec tornado as a hsf.
