okay, i was talking to my counselor today and she said that i had an average cum. gpa of 3.37 and really, that doesnt make sense because when i look at my transcript, i had 3.5 freshman year, 3.8 sophomore year, 3.6 junior year, and around a 3.4 for mid-year. do colleges look at core classes, academic classes, or just everything in general? i'm a bit worried now because I thought i had a somewhat decent gpa, maybe around 3.5 or 3.6 but after talking to her, im very uneasy about the colleges i applied to because they have mostly average of 3.6 - 3.9 gpa's. on the other hand, i have a lot of extra-curricular- student gov. vice president, 2 clubs, 2 sports, member of NHS, Tri-M (Music Honor Society), Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), and 2 out of school sports. i just want to know what are my chances and what advice can you give me? should I look at a lower caliber school? gahhh, im freaking out all over the place! someone please helpp crazy.gif

--edit--

nvm, i talked with my counselor yesterday and she said that i'd have more than enough to apply to the school that i'm looking at. the only reach school would probably be northwestern and michigan so yeah- thanks to the four people that posted smile.gif

Always have safety schools. For your GPA, I have no idea.

O_o Maybe your counselor told you your unweighted GPA? Did you take honors courses? Cause... your unweighted GPA is usually a lot lower than what you expect your GPA to be.

^ that's what i was thinking. i think you should definitely apply to all the colleges you want regardless of how competitive they are because you never know, but also have one or two backup schools just so you know they're there for you if something doesn't go as planned.

Yeah, the only thing I can think of is that she was talking about your unweighted GPA. I think schools usually re-calculate the GPAs to make it easier to compare them across applicants anyway, so I don't know what to tell you. How does your SAT score compare to the averages at those schools?
