I got into University Park....I'm having trouble deciding which dorms I should request. I picked South Halls and East Halls but I'm confused.
I'm so glad someone goes there! I have three questions:
1.) I want to take two language minors but I want to know if its too much work
2.) Can you study abroad more than once?
3.) Is the school as wild as everyone says it is(party wise?) and how's the atmosphere?

heyyy=) i go to penn state university park too.
most freshmen live in east but the dorms aren't that great. altho living in east isn't that bad either cuz you meet alot of ppl since east is like all freshmen. some freshmen live in south or pollock. i lived in south halls freshmen yr, it was pretty cool...really close to downtown....which is a definite plus.
1)minors aren't bad. there are alot of ppl who minor in two subjects.
2) im not sure if you can but probably? ask your advisor.
3) just depends who you hang out with

ooh im going there '13 yayay
i have a questions for those of you who already go there
im def going to rush in september but on the psu sorority website, i saw that you have to register and pay to rush, but the only sororities on the website were panhellenic ones. i know there are at least 10 more..so does that mean theres a diff rush time/activity for the other sororities?
and how many asian sororities at psu? and also i hear the asian sororities have bad reps there. whats up with that?

there are two asian sororities at psu and their rush period is typically the first two-three weeks of school. which sorority are you interested in rushing for? or are you just looking into all of them?

if you're interested, just register on the psu greek website in the beginning of the semester and ull get to meet all the different panhellenic sororities. for the asian sororities, you don't have to register, they usually hold info sessions at the hub (main central building at psu).

I lived in Pollock my first year, I decided that I didn't want to live in East Halls because it will be too crazy and its also kind of far from class buildings. But my friends that lived in East Halls didn't really mind it much. South Halls is nice, like someone said near downtown. West has the best dining commons, so everyone claims. But really it just has more food options. The rooms in West are indeed nicer though.
If you want to take 2 language minors, that's probably about an extra 42 credits. The recommended credit per semester is 15, which is usually around 5 classes. For language courses, the first couple of years are usually 4 credits which means you meet 5 times a week instead of 3. If you already know the languages to a degree, you can take a test to test out of the beginning courses. But make sure you talk this over with the department. I made this mistake and thought I didn't have to make up the credits that I skipped but you do. So I ended up dropping the minor because I didn't have enough time to complete it by the time I found out I had to make up 12 credits. I'm not sure if it is different for different languages so just ask.
And yes, you can study abroad more than once.
As for your last question...yes and no. Really depends on who you decide to hang out with. There are definitely a lot of parties but also a lot of people who don't or aren't wild. Thurs-Sat are usually the most popular days to party. The noise level could be a problem if you get annoyed by it...but if you are a part of it then no worries =P

North Halls has the newest dorms, I haven't visited them myself. But my one friend that lived there had to pay more for her dorm than all the others because I guess the quality if better. Location-wise, I'd say that it's kind of like East in that it's not really close to classes. But there are always buses and usually the farthest you have to walk is 15min.
