I just couldn't help but notice that the string of recent songs all seem to repeat the same word over and over again. Does anyone else notice this?

Gee gee gee gee baby baby baby
Sorry Sorry Sorry Sorry naega naega naega munjuh
Honey honey honey Naui mame honey honey honey
Again and again and again and again
Lolli lolli lollipop oh lolli pop pop
Na mi mi mi mi mi mi mi michigo shippeo
Diva Diva d-d-d-Diva
Nawa bwa bwa bwa bwa bwa nareul ttara wa wa wa wa wa

It seems like a formula that works but I think it's getting abused. I don't think this applies just to Korean music. American pop music repeats a lot too (womanizer woman womanizer you're a womanizer - etc.) but this whole repetitive schtick in Korean pop is really obvious because all the songs chart in the top 10. I still like the songs but I feel like producers are forcing them to be catchy.

this probably would get close but i want to say something

i agree and to me its getting really annoying cuz u cant spot a lot of talent in a song if all they sang is like one word. but i think its the tread this year along with the female/male *insert random name* ver like 2ne1 is the female ver of BB, AJ is like Rain/Se7en and etc. hopeful the tread will fade away. but i guess a lot of ppl like it?

If the formula works, you betcha everyone is gonna want to use it... and abuse it. xD
Sometimes I think it's annoying, but I admit I really like some of those songs... so I'm not complaining... for now. xP

Yes, it's a very well known trend.

As for the right way, the correct way,
and the only way, it does not exist."

mainstream music in korea usually stick to one trend thats why almost all songs esp idol songs have the same formula..there's no uniqueness and no diversity in the mainstream music and omg the music industry is flooded with idol groups, everytime i watch music shows, the performers are mostly idol groups..i wonder what the artists like epik high, sg wannabe think about this, i'm sure they are silently protesting about this..

yes it is and it's annoying
i can accept if just the chorus have this repetitive word
but if it is keep being repetitive throughout the song
it feels like listening to a broken record
feels like wanna smash that record
hopefully it will fade soon

I think there are some exceptions to the rule. Like 8282 by Davichi. I think Davichi is a genuinely talented duo. They sing SO WELL and their songs don't sound too repetitive but still get the same recognition. That's cool!

YES. Did anyone see the Music Bank (I think it was Music Bank?) performance of AJ and Chung Lim emulating Rain and SE7EN?? I mean, they couldn't have made it anymore obvious. They might as well have said "We're just knock-offs of Rain and SE7EN." Honestly that really sucks I think. Those guys are both good dancers, but the fact that they're being marketed as the new Rain and the new SE7EN is really weak. It's like saying to the public that there is nothing unique about them.

Well I noticed that in the k-entertainment industry, people tend to jump the bandwagon and follow the trend quite closely. There almost never seems to be any diversity.

yes, and its partially the reason why im starting to dislike kpop.

they need to stop caring about images and stuff. Everything is starting to become to fake, it makes me sad. ): and the songs are starting the sound the same. Repetitive lyrics, catchy techno tunes, those charm sounds in almost every ballad.

yes, it makes the song catchy. but if they were to produce good music, the repetitive lyrics wouldnt have to be needed.

Its called a hook for a reason.
I think the main thing that gets us addicted to their song IS the repetition.
That's what makes us remember it and that's what makes it more & more appealing as we hear it more.
I mean, sure, kpop has been having too much of it lately... but I kind of like it.

gasp. i thought i was the only one who noticed this (among my friends, at least)

I didn't notice this when wondergirls had their moment with tell me and so hot. By nobody, I started to see a trend in their songs.. Then i heard lollipop and then Fire. Basically, it's 4 words + music. Korean music has been dumbed down so much lately and this may sound a tad extreme, but sometimes I'm so ashamed to be korean when it comes to music.. sigh.. but at the same time i have to admit the songs ARE catchy

i miss the music a few years back..

to me these kinds of songs are relying on getting stuck in peoples' heads. not really talent.
personally, i don't like it, but a lot of people don't seem to care...

It's irritating, but it works. Like, Dambi's Saturday Night. It's basically a bland and uninspired song, but SO catchy (esp combined with the signature dance move thing that's also becoming sooo popular). It really is beginning to do my head in a bit, yeah.

@ fritz: Not much, I'd say. It's one of the things I love about the kmusic biz, they're all so supportive of each other, and the non-mainstream/non-idols don't think of themselves as better than/above the idol/mainstream. I mean, Tablo likes SNSD! <3

I'll perform you.

all those songs are mainstream stuffs so everything will sound around the same and reps are catchy ;D

(sorry for cutting)

i also wish singers would actually dance instead of using easy dances that everyone can learn after watching it once over. (theres probably 1 or 2 exceptions to this, but for the most part, i'm not impressed with anyone's dancing anymore.)
remember back when singers/groups actually had impressive dances?
