I'm studying my Year 12 in another foreign country and I'm planning to study Law in Australia. However, I'm not sure which is considered the best law school in Australia.

The only thing I know is that ANU is the best university in Aussie, however I'm not sure whether is it the best university for law.

However, I would prefer studying in Sydney as most of my seniors are there.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Please don't listen to him, either he was kidding, or that was simply a useless post. You cannot graduate with a Bachelor of Laws from Tafe. rolleyes.gif

As far as I know, while ANU is prestigious and known for being the top Uni in Australia, I've heard that it is better for postgrad rather than undergrad study. I'm not 100% sure on that though, so don't quote me on it.

I've searched up a link for you at Bored of Studies (Australian forum) for a discussion thread on the best law school in Sydney for a combined law degree. You'll have to nitpick through the rubbish that some of those users post there though...

Best uni for studying Law?

Good luck!

I was just kidding, but I'm wondering when you do year 12 in another country, how do you get into uni here? Cause they don't have UAI elsewhere, do they base it on whatever that country's system is?

^ This is just one blind guess, but maybe the OP is doing the IB (International Baccalaureate) program at their current school so that he/she can be admitted into an overseas Uni...? If not, I wonder how else it is possible. OP, care to enlighten us? biggrin.gif

I go to ANU, and I'm not sure about how law ranks against other universities

But those who do law need a really high entrance score, 95/100 UAI.

You could probably check out the website if you want to know more about the courses available and what's required

www.anu.edu.au

Also, there's a huge library here just dedicated to Law.

I'm from Sydney and i think the UAI you need to get into ANU is significantly lower then Sydney Uni.. like 95 as opposed to 99.* Might just because more ppl want to go to Usyd but..

i think ANU is lower because its further from the main cities. lol correct me if im wrong, i suck at geography but its more further away from main cities so theres not as many people applying for it
thats why its significantly lower but it is considered the best in australia
USYD has recently gotten a new law faculty building if im not mistaken
but i think usyd is more of an arts school
whilst unsw is more of a commerce/business
or maybe its the other wya around

This argument has probably been made so many times, but UAI is merely an indicator of demand and supply for student places in a course. Basically, it doesn't determine whether x Uni is better than y Uni, but is relative to how competitive it is to get a place. Since Sydney is obviously more heavily populated, it makes sense that the cut off would be so high if student places are limited. So I think you're quite right that more people are trying to get into USyd, especially if they don't want to have to live on campus in another state (even if it is considered 'the best' Uni in Australia).

Like said in response to the above quote, Sydney is much more populated and it makes sense that the cut off is higher in comparison. Both Uni's are (from what I know) quite renowned and prestigious, so I hardly think you could go wrong with either. With that said, I honestly think that it's not so much the Uni that you're at, but what you do there that makes your degree worthwhile. smile.gif
