How's everyonee?! After AP Testings and all hhehe? Well as we all knows, May is Prom's Month since majority of Proms are in may, there are some in June too but yeah. Well mine already passed..lol it was the weekend that just passed actually. But I didn't go to it because my cousin's wedding was on the same day. So my parents said I wasn't allowed to go, i was really sad by it but eventually i got over it [suprisingly, i didn't get mad or argue with my parents, probably because I still have my boyfriend's prom to go lol] Anyway, then they changed their mind and said I can go to my prom, but by the time they said that, it was too late to buy tickets and too late for anything, such as tux, clothes, corsage, yah know, all the prom's etiquette.
So now my boyfriend's prom is coming up, may 23rd, and I'm planning to have a conversation with my parents about it by this week so that there will be no awkwardness or tension in the air, I want to clear all things as soon as possible.
I just told my mom that i'm going to his prom [she told me to tell her if I am], and afterward i was saying like, so what are the rules and etc that I will be having? [Keep in mind my parents are the really strict type..] So I already know I have limits and such, and I'm willing to followed them to a certain extent because I don't want to make them sad or anything. And already, I and my mom had a mini-fight in the car on the way home.
Here we go.
I want to stay out at the VERY least 2 A.M. or 1:30 A.M., first off, let me explains why I want to do that.
The Prom ends at midnight, and it is held in some place in Laguna Beach [i'm not sure of the exact location yet] But the point is, Laguna Beach is about an hour, no traffic, from where I lives [oh I'm in California by the way] Therefore, if the Prom ends at 12 and we leaves right away, give or take I won't be back until at the very least 1 A.M., so my reason for wanting to stay out until 2 A.M. is normal, I mean I don't want to rush home..it's my only Prom..I want to at least enjoy it..I think 2 A.M. is reasonable..I'm not asking to stay out all night to party..
These are the reasons I'm planning to use to make my case.
First and second reason is stated up there [the time limit]
Third, the school's rule is that no one is allowed to leave the place until the dance is over, it's a school's policy
Fourth, it's once in a lifetime [i'm not planning to go to prom once i go to college O.O lol i dont date younger guys..o.o] anyway that's off-topic, so it's very special to me and i want to have fun, just once.
Fifth, all my friends [girls] got to stay out late until like 3 A.M. on my school's prom, and half of them have parents just like mine, super strict and such but they understood and trusted their daughters, why can't they understand too?
Sixth, I've always listened to them..come home when they want me to, I don't understand why i cant just be a little bit more free, come home a little bit later? I'm not asking for it on an everyday basis..just one night. My cousins get to do it why can't I? I've worked so hard, get good grades, maintain a good image in this family, shows up at all family events, my cousins doesn't even care..why do i have to suffer and they have fun and freedom..?
Seventh, my parents know my date, everytime i'm out, i'm always with him, and yes, they know he's my boyfriend but we're good kids, i'm always home in time when i'm with him, they know me and him doesn't do anything illegal or wrong, he's a good guy, so it's not like i'm out with strangers, i'm with someone they can trust.

I know some of the reasons seem very..childish, but it doesnt matter, this isn't about me trying to act mature and what not, all those reasons are valid and true, I don't wanna be an adult or whatever right now and listen to them, because honestly..i don't believe they're right in this case. I know to stay away from drugs and alcohol, i'm not gonna go have s*x [i'm sure that's what they're thinking], i just want to have a nice time with my boyfriend and his friends, i want to have memories to look back on, and to look beautiful that night. So soompiers, can you help me to come up with more reasons and such to convince my parents on letting me stay out? I'm not being absurd and asking to stay out all night, I believe i'm being very reasonable. Thank you ahead. And if you're going to start bashing saying things like, oh you're parents are right, you're being spoil, please just don't even bother.

so i'm good to go until 2 a.m. =]
i can't go to afterparty [already knew] but i'm just glad i can go to prom without restriction on times

Tell her that you'll willing to do better at school?
I don't think you're being spoiled, I mean you deserve the time to go to prom

Erm... my school didn't let us out until it was over in a failed attempt to after-prom notoriety.

Anyway, what's the big deal? Just tell your parents, and if they don't like it, there's nothing you can really do about it unless you want to rebel.

oh wow 1:30 am to 2 is really early.
prom ends at 12 for us & then after that
we have a thing called After Prom which ends at 5 am.

lets see...
-this only happens once in your lifetime
-your parents didn't let you go last time (guilt them)
-everyone else is staying out later then you are
-basically tell them what you told us

What else... Really prove to them by just keeping your cool and reinforcing your points!
Explain to them why it's really important. Set out your case like you did here : )

you should acknowledge their side. WHY are they not allowing you to? and then specifically address their concerns.

I mean, it's like trying to argue with someone about why peaches are the best fruit ever when they're arguing back that white peaches are the best kind of peaches...(sorry for the totally weird analogy..xD)

That's great that your dad allowed you to be out till 2am..Hope you have fun...
For my prom, I didn't get home til like 3 or 4am, went out to two after parties but my mom wasn't in town when it was my prom so, my brother's didn't really mind me going out for the night.

I'm glad you managed to sort it out though, I was going to say try talk to your mum again with your bf there too so you both can try to convince since she knows you two are going out (worked for me when I had my prom)
