NOT AT ALL! One of my friends is a junior and she's 27 going on 28.

At least you're going to college!

It's never to late to start school again. Be proud that you are giving it a chance and having the opportunity.

Hey as long as you're still ambitious and wanting to go to school, who cares what age you start at. Life happens and unfortunately for some people they have to put their priorities on hold until things get settled. There was a 30+ year old father who was in the same Organic Chem class as me and I didn't really think much of it.

QUOTE (dancingbymyself @ May 14 2009, 12:50 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So i'm 19 and i'll be 20 by the time next fall runs around.
I'm thinking of stopping school in the US and starting over in Korea (due to family reasons)
I was supposed to go this past year, but I had to stay in the US for various reasons.
If I go to Korea, i'm going to have to spend about a year in the language program, and since
I was planning on changing majors (and countries lol) I found out only 3 of my classes will transfer.
I'll pretty much have to start over as a freshman.
So my question. Is 21 too old to be a college freshman? Not just in Korea, but in the US because I plan to
eventually come back here. And the major i'm switching to is pretty much a "have to go to grad school or work at mc donalds"
major so is 27-28ish old to be graduating college?

My situations pretty much like yours, sans the Korea part. I`m 19, and will be 20 years old in 1 month. I recently took my SAT so I can get into school, cause I kinda feel i`m too old...but I know its something i want to do, i just needed that break before I made a commitment like college. I dont know if 21 is too old, but I will say, it sure shouldnt stop you or me, or anyone else.^__^

of course 21 isn't too old. You had a late start, doesn't mean you have to quit because of it. =)

I know it's never too old in America to be old and still be in college. Some 80 yr old guy just graduated this year from one of the universities near my location. He was in the news and everything. I just graduated college and i'm 25. It would of been sooner if I didn't change majors, but I wasn't happy with my first major. One of my best friends is 25 and is still a sophomore, and he says he won't be finishing college until he is 30 because of work and how demanding his major is (mechanical engineering). Nowadays, people are working and going to school, so it takes longer sometimes and employers understand that.

My friend from hk tells me it's a bit of a stigma to not graduate college when you're 22-23. I don't know if it's the same in Korea. I know a lot of older Chinese generations would wonder why you've been in college for so long and may put you down for that, or question you.

Never too young. I remember when I was 17, most of the freshmen were 25+, they were from Japan and Korea, wanted to start over in the US tongue.gif So yea! Don't worry my brother is turning 29 and he still doesn't have his AA tongue.gif

I am 21 and was a freshman. No worries though, I blended in with everyone else, besides the fact that I worked harder and had a much nicer beard. Also, had friends from 25 to 36.

HEEEECK NO.

21 is actually the average age in my program.. LOL.. I have someone in my class that is 45..

They won't really care about your age... For them, the older, the better coz apparently, you're more mature, you will take things more seriously than those who just got out from high school. boohoo. ):

I'll admit, there was only one student in my freshman CS course last semester who was over 20 (I think 23). He happened to be the guy I had a bit of a crush on =P

Age difference shouldn't be you main concern. It should be if your dedicated enough to spend the time to take it seriously.

21 is still pretty young so its not a problem. I know lots of people in my classes who are like 26 and a sophomore. It's just that some people decide to take a break from school and start college later, which is not a big deal at all. tongue.gif

nah its not too old. I've seen like 30-40's people in my classes especially in the science section since they want to become nurses, dental hygiene etc.

for me, in college i was so confuse on what to major that i haven't even gotten my associate degree, and majority of my friends are graduating with bachelors this year. dry.gif

like i said, its not too old to start a freshmen in college. tongue.gif

No, it´s not. Korea does have very differenced language according to age, so you might have some people talking to you in a more polite way than if you were their age, but other than that, the difference shouldn´t be that big (and if you´re foreign, they might just talk to you like you´re their friend instead of oppa/hyung or unnie/noona). Also, many guys leave between 2nd and 3rd year and spend 2 years in the military, so they´re 2 years older than the girls in their same class when they graduate. So people are really used to a bit of an age difference during university.
