Female infanticide is practiced in areas where male are valued more than females. The pregnant mother aborts the fetus or kills their daughter afterward because of their sex. The common reasons for female infanticide is that sons are believed to be more persistent and hardworking (therefore obtaining more income for the family) and more traditionally, because they continue the family's name and the ancestral line. Female infanticide is common in countries such as People's Republic Of China, Taiwan, Korea, and India.
The consequences for female infanticide are the distortion of gender ration in a population, and an increase of certain crimes (I.E: Rape). Competition will also brew on the surface of the community as the females will become so precious that the males can have a possibility of performing illegal acts to obtain a spouse.
There is also a thread about this problem in the current event section (the one about how abortions in China lead to 32 million more males than females).
If you ask me, I don't understand how females are so looked down upon. Didn't we establish that women also have the same rights as men? That we too can be independent and earn a job and put bread on the table? How can so many parents end the life of an innocent baby just because of their sex? Could they not have pushed away their sexist opinions? I find this problem a disheartening con of the human race and it needs to be solved...

i was the only girl in my entire family before my cousins were born a couple years ago. i remember my bros used to joke around with it and would say that our family would be perfect if we were royalty because we'd have so many sons to take over the throne and they said that they'd probably sell me off to marry someone random and get money off of it lol

I hate it! Well, I am a girl so of course I hate it! I have another reason, at school, the guys think that they're soo much better then me and my friends. They always look down on us, pick on us, those things. I'm even better at them at football, and the team didn't even let me try out because I was a girl! (This happened a while ago) My friend wanted to try out for basketball. There was only a guy team cause no girls wanted to play sports and instead loook like plastic Barbie dolls. She tried out, beat their fcukin asses, and didn't get the part. I dragged her to the principal and told her everything, I got accepted into the football team, but I got revenge by saying "Nah, I don't need the football team. I'll try something else." and my friend got captain of the team. So basically, my school sport captians are sexist.

Of course any kind of -cide is bad, unless it is pesticide.
I won't bother since I won't read the rules and they won't accommodate.

its awful and totally stupid!
we live in Canada and when my mom was pregnant with my little sister they told us that they were 100% sure that the baby was a HE THE WHOLE TIME! everytime we asked if it was a boy or a girl, they would look at us weird and say its a boy. So we went and bought boy things and we picked a boy name. On the day she was born i was sooo excited to meet my new little brother! at first i was confused and wondered if it was the wrong baby & i didnt even know what to call her. it was horrible

remember seeing a documentation on China last year. They showed this clip of a mother who was in labor and had a baby girl and she was so depressed about it, that she didn't even want to look at the baby! :'( the baby girl was GORGEOUS!
as you said, people in Chana and other asain countries WANT BOYS more than girls because they want them to carry on thier family name and to help thier parents with chores and such as they get older.
I'm Punjabi/East Indian, and my parents were praying for a boy, cause there were only 2 boys that were carrying the last name of my father and uncle (brothers) and they were (i think ) upset, BUT not TOTALLY upset that i was a girl. I ask my mom sometimes and she always says she doesn't care about the sex of her children.
I just don't like that fact that in China, if you are pregnant with a girl the police come into your house and force you to get an abortion, one time they killed the mother and the baby because she refused to. But my teacher said that when he lived and taught in China, he knew a woman that was 4 months pregnant and found out it was a girl, she didn't want to get an abortion so she had to pay a fine of $10,000.00 in CAD so that she could have the girl
