are you taking all hard classes?
take some easy core courses. and summer school will probably help.
just take some easy courses to help your GPA.

Just talk to the department head?
I dunno a lot about engineering because that's not my major.
But at my school, they're very lenient if you go talk to the admins.
I would say take some classes that you know you can ace during the summer to help.
If I were you, I would go up to talk to (preferred)/email/call some people and professors to know for sure of my chances, instead of sitting there wondering.
Good luck!

I'm not an engineering major, but my fall quarter was....well I dug a hole so deep it's going to take me forever to get out. XD
Anyhow, because my GPA was lower than required I was placed on academic probation so it was basically one more chance to
get my GPA up before kicking me out. So I worked hard next quarter and brought my GPA up and was reinstated to regular student
status. I would assume most colleges have academic probation and that they wouldn't kick you out the first time your GPA was
below expected (though you were very close to that 2.5). Talk with advisors and balance your classes so that you can maintain your GPA !
That's what i'm doing now, i learned my lesson. X3
Good luck !
