I'm pretty sure it'll run. like I said, video card and ram is the primary issue, then cpu.

what do you mean the slowest ?
notebook hard drives come at 4200, 5400 and 7200 rpm
lately they're throwing 200Gb hard drives which may wow some consumers because they only see the 200gb
but little do many of them know that its at 4200 rpm
a 100gb HD at 7200rpm costs more than a 200gb HD at 4200rpm.
and yeah, I still think you can do better by buying the same laptop but with 1gb ram for $1350
and buying another 1gb on your own for $40 and then saving your money on a very large external one in the future.

its up to you. I already said what I could say in terms of what I would configure on the FZ, no one is forcing you to buy that specific configuration you put up.
as far as 15.4" goes
if you want good power to performance ratio, go for the Dell 1520 or Vostro 1500 which has alot of screen options and lid color options
if you want something thin and sleek (but PC) and a great screen, then the Vaio FZ
if you like Macs (and willing to pay a lot for it) go for the Apple MBP
if you want rugged durability, then go for the Lenovo Thinkpad T61 or R61
thats pretty much it.
there's some others like say the Asus V1S.. however while its built well, its not as rugged as the T61, its not as cheap as the Dell, and its not as think as the Vaio.
pricing on these is ALWAYS variable depending on how you configure them and what coupons you use.

edit: how about the sony cr series? most likely cus of the design of it.
i kinda dont like how the fz looks, it looks plain. i love the look of the cr though, but is it worth it?
ohhh thanks!
but after looking at reviews, specs, etc ive decided to get the sony vaio fz.
thanks for allll your help!

better go to a store to see what you consider as the perfect size first before you consider the option.
keep in mind, smaller and skinnier laptops will have more noticeable heat.
in addition, "Multimedia" friendly is a very very vague term.
what do you expect when you say multimedia
do you simply want something that plays videos?
or are you more specific in needing things like tv tuner, hdmi ports, dvi, etc?

minus the heat factor, sounds like an xps 1330 might be the best bet... if ur willing to shell out a lot of $$$ that is...

you'll love the screen. had I have to go for a 15.4" again, I'd probably go for the FZ190 (even though there are other laptops with better vid cards).

the first uses Core 2 Duo, the other uses Santa Rosa (Centrino Pro).
Because of being centrino pro, the x61 has far better integrated graphics in case you feel the urge to play some games
although the problem is that Microsoft hasn't released better drivers that'll allow it to use some shader functions.. but I
reckon the new integrated graphics (the x3100) is at least as good as the ATi 9700.
the first has matured and I believe has an sxga screen option, the other only has xga at the moment but
has an option for a new super bright screen Lenovo introduced (I don't think its LED backlit, but some argue other wise)

multimedia friendly as in it can just play DVDs
