really? any other issues you have with it? Its the laptop I SOO wanted, but I hated the long wait for it (I waited over 1 month for it).. then I heard there were numerous build issues like a wobbly base, high pitch noise, bad paint, scratches on the slot loading drive on cds, etc.
the only real rival to the M1330 is the Sony SZ6 series.. they both have aluminum palm rests, they both use LED backlit screens and the same video card (although the SZ6 has less dedicated Vram). However the SZ6 lets you switch between integrated and dedicated video, and there isnt as many build issues on the SZ6 than the M1330. most of the ones I heard are some backlight bleed. Don't ever buy the SZ6 from stores, its very expensive.. buying direct from Sonystyle (and haggling with them over the phone or in person at their store) can get you discounts. Portable One, is also good and do sony repairs, and price matching. I have an SZ myself (but the older 4 series).
there is also the Asus U3, but that won't be out until next month.
I also had the Asus W7j, the previous model before the W7s. You can read my review of it on Notebookreview.com . it had great build, but its ALOT fatter and considerably heavier than the M1330 or the SZ. both palm rests get very warm, and the right side vent really annoys me when I use an external mouse. The battery life is awful, and the screen is definitely not as bright as the M1330 LED or the SZ. the Keyboard is great, but I hate the shortened Backspace key.. I keep hitting Home by accident. very annoying when typing papers.
There is also the upcoming Asus Z37s, dunno how different it'll be from the W7s, but I reckon it'll also be a fat 13.3".
other than that, your only other alternatives are to go down to 12" models, or up to 14.1"

A lot of dell computers seem to have this problem, but i think they are trying to fix it
I think Dell has a 30 Day Return policy; I'm sure you can exchange your m1330 for another free of charge if you contact them about your problem.

In addition to the high pitched noise..my laptop grinds. It makes grinding sound + high pitched noise when the laptop is on...I talked to a tech and he told me to install rmclock...but it doesn't elimate the high pitched noise completely..now the high pitched sound is inconsistent compared to before...sometimes it gets loud..then seconds later you couldn't hear it..then it comes back on...
Sony is too expensive for me..here in Canada it's over $2000..
I want to try Asus..despite it's heat problem..because there aren't many choices I have for laptops in this range..
Maybe I'll just go to bestbuy and get a cheaper laptop...

HP DV2418 14.1" Intel Centrino Core Duo T2450 2.0GHz Laptop
HP Pavilion DV2408CA 14.1" Intel Pentium Dual Core T2080 1.73GHz Laptop
HP Pavilion DV2550SE 14.1" Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 1.5GHz Laptop
Between these 3..which one would you recommend? What's the difference b/t Intel Centrino/Pentium?

Windows xp
2 gig ram
core 2 duo t7200
160gig hard drive, well more like 140
nice widescreen display.
__
the only thing I hate is how slowly it loads up because of all the bloatware the school installed (even disabling from msconfig and services.msc doesn't do much).
but yeah, it is really good
got it for around $1660-$1700, so I think I got a good deal

Lol really ? 36 days? Wow , i think it took my brother's 1520 around a bit less then 3 weeks . I unno wut noise people been talkin about cuz my brother's dell 1520 seems to be ok with noise , its not that quiet , but its not that loud either . The only problem hes had since was the microphone jack stopped working and hes had his laptop for 2 months now.
Today I just purchased my dell inspiron 1520
The specs are:
-Intel Core2Duo T7300
-2GB RAM
-120GB HDD
-NVIDIA m8600GT 256MB
-Glossy Alpine White colour
-2.0mp Webcam
-3yr Complete Care Warrenty
Ended up coming to $1638CAD w/o tax. Which is a pretty good deal for the performance and warrenty
I wish I could have gotten a ASUS or Toshiba laptop but my dad wanted something cheaper and he really liked dell's warrenty on 3yr Complete Care. bah!lol.

its really hard to beat Dell when it comes to price/power ratio.. only some of the Lenovos (which in the US at least, has h uge deals) come close. Unfortunately you'll have to deal with the bland design of the Inspirons. on the brighter side, be happy, the new Inspiron line is much better built than any Toshiba out there at the moment and has far more sturdier keyboard. the only main issue I've found with the Inspirons are their screens.. its either hit or miss (for your info, many laptop manufacturers may use multiple sources for the screen, which results in differing quality). Asus for example, uses AUO and CMO screens for their A8 series.

double post?
yeah, Lenovo USA has alot of crazy deals. Thinkpads are normally expensive, but because of these recent deals, they can be as cheap as Inspirons!
For better battery life, go for a low ULV processor (at the moment I only see it as an option on the tablet models, so you're probably forced to go to 1.8ghz on the regular centrino pro). the X61 has this new super bright screen option (I forgot what its called). I personally would get it because Thinkpads are kinda dim.. but it'll use more battery life so avoid it if longer battery life is what you want. don't go for a 7200rpm HD, stick with a 5400rpm.
Im looking at Lenovo's canadian site.. it has FAR less options on configuring your laptop

read the guide first. you can throw out any laptop but we wont know if its good for you because we don't know what you intend to do it with it. Its like cars, lots of cars are good but some don't need the power of a Ferrari, others need something big for a family etc. like wise, some people want small laptops for portability, others want big ones for power and more functionality, others want specific features like finger print reader, HD protection, etc., some just want something sleek.

really? you find 14" too small? I personally love 13.3", perfect size for power and portability but everyone has different needs. the 15.4" form factor usually gives you the most for your money and is the cheapest size. Dell Inspiron 1520 or the Vostro 1500 are the BEST power/price ratio available, provided you can use some discounts. you can get a very good spec'd one with a good video card for around $1000 or even less! since your needs are modest (any computer can go on the net, download and type papers) you can even get it down tot he $600s or 700s for something thats actually modern (instead of a cheapo $400-500 that uses an old processor).
the T61 series from Lenovo is also a good value and they do have some sales. it has great build quality. however none of these are sleek. I had a Sony FZ for a while, you could get that for your price range (I suggest getting the HC screen over the ECO. what it is, is basically having two lamps instead of one). While it doesnt offer the best specs for your $$ like the Dell, its thinner, lighter, sleeker, and most importantly, it has one of the BEST screens (if not the best) on a 15.4" laptop.
some other ones worth mentioning is the Asus V1S but thats quite expensive and out of your range.

Sony has a trade in program and an online calculator to calculate its worth.. but you'll probably get much more if you just sold it yourself

Looking for a laptop for Campus/school and I've been looking for a laptop within the 1200-1500 price range, that's fast, light, and has a big harddrive. Will probably download a lot, write papers, watch a couple of videos. As for screen size, 14.1 is my preferred.
I've been looking at the Sony Vaio CR Series (because it was sexy, but I really don't know what I'm looking for when I'm looking at the specs), I heard it wasn't worth the money. Here's the specs.
What do you guys think?
And are there any suggestions for other laptops that fit what I'm looking for? I know what I'm looking for is very broad, but just looking for someone to point me in the right direction
