Would I be able to play WoW smoothly?
And should I wait til the summer to buy it,
in case something better comes out?
I'm not really in a hurry. I want to get a good
laptop that will last for the next 3 years.
And my budget now is low, but if I wait til the summer,
I can spare 2.5k.
Suggestions?

yeah, WoW isn't too demanding and yes somehting better will always come out if you wait. If you wait until summer, newer processors will come out.

Hey Range,

I was thinking of buying a XPS, the 13.3 one and was wondering, if there is any big difference between a brand new one,
and a refurbished one cause the price is almost a 50% difference.
I'm planning to use the laptop for my CSE class and I sometimes play 3-d games on it.
Do you think the 13.3 inch one will have enough power, or should I get the 15 inch one?

i belive the new XPS M1330 has the 45mm Penryn CPU Chips and the refurbs have the Santa Rosa chips (aka last generation)

Does anyone have any info on the HP Pavilion DV6775US? I'm thinking about getting it. Or maybe the Sony Vaio CR series--but I'm afraid of the "loose battery" problem with those laptops. Has Sony remedied that yet? I'm also wondering if anyone could enlighten me about the battery life of these two notebooks. Thanks!

most laptops are already on wireless or have a switch somewhere on the laptop to turn it on, that simple.
all you need to do is log in.

if you got something older, just get a wireless dongle.

the loose battery isn't so bad an issue, just more of an annoyance, and no.. its something they've always had as far as I can remember and I heard the new ones haven't fixed it either. and probably the CR because that HP has a bigger screen and a dedicated vid card.

Ohh okay. And I have another question...when you're looking at the processors (i think it's intel for vaio), what's the difference between like 2.0, 2.1, 2.4, 2.6? Stuff that I'll be doing on the computer: surfing, graphics programs (photoshop, illustrator, etc.), video-editing, typing stuff for school, and yeah O:

i've heard a lot of bad stuff about vista, and has anyone who has owned a vaio ever downgraded back to xp?

I'm not sure why anyone would not want to customize, but if you go through their refurb section, you can find "as is" models for very cheap.
u could of course, customize the dell to the specs being sold at stores.

true.
but unfortunately i'm not an EXPERT in all the terms of technology or computer.
and i see it as what the others stores (electronic, computer stores) have already is good enough for me,
why pay more for something i don't even know a slight bit of...
and thanks, i'll be sure to check out the refurb section...

the higher, the more powerful and more expensive. but in all honesty, 2.0 is probably good enough for most people.
and as a matter of fact, I'm on a Vaio that came with Vista and have downgraded back to XP wink.gif

in my case, Sony's site had specific drivers and instructions on "downgrading" back to XP for my model which made the process very simple.

thats why you should look at the computer's specs before buying to see if it did have wireless. and there's no such thing as a wireless wire.. otherwise it wouldn't be wireless.

Oh, okay. That's very helpful! See, because if I get the Vaio, I plan on downgrading back to XP because I love it--and I don't want the complications that come with Vista. Especially since I haven't decided on how many GB of ram I'm going to get; I heard that Vista runs slow without at least 2GB D: Oh, and I was wondering--how does the integrated webcam still work with the downgrade to XP? Which program does it use?

Thanks for all the help--it's really useful! (:

this is where you'll need to do a bit of research yourself. Go check out the Sony site and see if there are drivers that will allow you to make a successful downgrade to XP. As long as you have the drivers, you can run things like your sound, video card, webcam, etc.

the sony section on notebookreview's forums tend to have guides on downgrading to XP, just go search around or post there. at least 2GB is preferred for Vista

i hate when there's a seemingly interesting story but i can't read through it because the writing is SO. BAD.

right now it seems like there's only XP tablet edition no Vista.. but I've seen tablets being offered with Vista Business.

Can't decide between two ASUS notebooks...

ASUS F8SV-A1
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500(2.20GHz)
160GB HDD
1GB DDR2 RAM + 1GB Turbo Memory (? idk what that is)
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256MB
14" and 5.7lb
$999
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16834220192

ASUS F3SA-A2
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500(2.20GHz)
160GB HDD
2GB DDR2 RAM + 1GB Turbo Memory (?)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 512MB
15.4" and 6.5lb
$999
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16834220297

Which would you get? I need to buy one of these soon because I fried my old laptop two nights ago... And I can't decide which one. My boyfriend says to get the 15.4" with the ATI, but a few of my friends said the 14" with the NVIDIA...
And my boyfriend also says that some games won't look as well on a 14" screen? Is that true?

Thanks in advance.

its not really about the screen but its resolution and video card that makes it look "great". It also depends on what kind of games you want to play. But between the two , I'd opt for the F8.. as there's a significant size difference between 14.1" and 15.4". You'll definitely notice it when you carry it around.

I'm in the market to buy a notebook and I can't decide on which processor I should get, the T8300 or T9300?

T8300 (45nm, 2.4GHz, 800MHz FSB, 3MB cache)
T9300 (45nm, 2.5GHz, 800MHz FSB, 6MB cache)

I'm building a Dell XPS M1530 right now and here are the list of specifications:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dell XPS 1530 $1,834

C2D T9300 (2.5 GHz/800Mhz FSB, 6MB Cache)

15.4" (1680x1050) + 2MP Camera + Stereo Microphone
3GB DDR2 @ 667MHz
200GB 7200RPM HDD Free Fall Sensor
DVD-RW/CD-RW
256MB Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT
Intel Next-Gen N Card
Dell 355 Bluetooth
6 and 9 Cell Li-Ion Battery
Sound Blaster Audigy HD Audio
Finger Print Reader
3-Year In-Home Service, Parts Labor (International)
3-Year Accidental Service Coverage + LoJack

Software and services thrown in free:
Trend Micro Internet Security (15-Months)
Adobe Photoshop + Premiere Elements
20GB Online Backup
Microsoft Works

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The difference in price between the T8300 and T9300 from Dell is $125. I can't find benchmarks anywhere comparing the two processors.

I'd like to use this laptop as a desktop replacement. So the speed (45nm C2D, 3GB RAM, 7200RPM HDD), graphics (8600M GT), and quality at the least has to be there.

I multi-task a lot, I'd love to use it for school, and occasional gaming on HL2 engine and beyond (I don't expect an 8600 to run Crysis, though).

So what are your guy's thoughts? Can anyone find a comparison between the T8300 and T9300?

if u can afford to get the t9300 then get it. the t9300 is a bit faster in games ... although u wont really "feel" it.

btw ... crysis runs on a 8600gt @ 1024x768 @ mid
IPB Image ... yeah ^^

How does the 8600GT card translate to an 8600M GT?

80%? 90%?

Well, I'm going to get a new laptop next year.
Something that will run fast [>1.6GHz] enough to suuport like...design programs such as (Photoshop, illustrator, flash, dreamweaver, indesign, imageready, etc)
Because at the moment, my laptop is running pretty slow with all those programs installed.

oh at the moment, I have a Toshiba Portege M200 Tablet laptop.

Any recommendations? tongue.gif
