money isn't a big issue. i want it to be portable because i might be carrying it around but nothing too small, i was thinking a 13"-15"
i want get mac but i'm going into engineering and i was afraid i still need windows but i like the design of it
i've looked at thinkpads too but that might be too business-like for me
i'll probably use the laptop for school, on the internet, watching asian dramas, youtube, downloading music and what not.
oh btw i don't like dell or sony.
someone please help me out
Since you're going to do engineering; you'll either want a MacBook Pro or a Lenovo ThinkPad. I'd go with the Lenovo ThinkPad T-Series (Make sure you get one with the NVIDIA Quadro for the systems graphics). Those two won't let you down in terms of power and reliability.
Apple's Macbook line up can run Windows XP =). There's a thing called "Boot Camp" that will allow you to use Windows XP or OS X Leopard.
Some models can be slightly overpriced or overpriced; however, their support and screens for me are superior compared to Dell or HP. For what you want to do, you'll have enough power and ability to do what you want to do while enjoying them on a really beautiful/vibrant screen
Ah, that doesn't change much actually. If anything that's really good; if you went to the Sony Style website, there's deals for college students. Possibly, you might want to check your University bookstore to see if they have any deals or what-not.

I've had HPs. And they've broken down on me in about a years time; however, mostly due to my fault I think. I carried it around a lot, and didn't really dust it. However, if I dusted it and didn't carry it around at every chance I got it would have probably lasted longer. So, if you do keep it just maintain it well.

I'm on a 15.4" FZ and it's great. I don't think it's too big and I don't suppose an extra inch would make it balloon. The weight's about fine too. But if you don't like big laptops or if you're looking to carry it around often, then it may not be suitable for you.

most of the models are being replaced by new ones at lenovo, in most cases they won't just stick the new cpu into existing models (especially with its new video card switching capabilities). I think the X300 might stay similar though. It's not that old to be replaced, and it will certainly 100% get the new centrino 2.
off topic, my X61s order disappeared from lenovo's database after almost 4 weeks of waiting. Anyone who buys a lenovo online, make SURE you call them to confirm the order!!! But I'm actually happy that this error happened, because now I can buy the X200. I was already experiencing buyer's remorse.

I have the DV2040CA for about 2 yrs now and so far, it still functioning fine.
The only problems I have is the keyboard which can get a little weird at times .. and recently, the lighting on the screen seems a bit weird.. (but that might be my plug)
Question:
How are Gateway and Toshiba laptops??
At the moment I'm thinking of a Sony NR series.. but when I compare it with similar price range laptops like Gateway and Toshiba, the specs for Gateway and Toshiba seems better.

I'll be using this for college assigments, but I suppose the basic Window software will do the job. I'm not really into the look or the screen size.
I want something that's not too pricey, long battery life, not to heavy coz I'll be carrying around,
I have no idea about the processor or what they actually do, bloatware or whatever, but I don't want a laptop that'll get broken easily or slow.
Oh, and is there other software that has the same function and simple to use like Window Movie Maker?
Anyone willing to help?

KIMZ either a MacBook or an HP laptop will do for you. HP laptops have very good internal speakers.

These laptops would be good for general gaming, but, in terms of MMORPGS. These would be able to run Age of Conan decently.
These laptops would be good for games like: Guild Wars, Maple Story, World of WarCraft
MacAir would be able to play games like Maple Story, Ragnarok Online and other MMORPGs with the same graphics/art. But wouldn't be able to play anything more intensive than that; such as: Mabinogi, Rose Online, Silkroad, Flyff and games that are more 3Dish won't play too well.

What would you say are the pros and cons?
Cuz I just saw it on Best Buy and it seems like a good deal, but I know almost nothing about laptops..
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.a...amp;catid=20354
Btw, I'm looking for one that's 14.1" or under, cuz I'll be carrying it around quite a bit.
Only gonna use it for hw, internet, music, and movies once in a while.
Budget would be around $1000.
Any other recommendations?

I mainly use my laptop for typing, surfing the web, downloading movies and music using torrents/clubbox...
I was originally planning to get an Apple Macbook, since I'm moving to the UK for studies, I've decided to buy a cheaper laptop locally and get a Macbook when I get there.

I want a laptop that I can watch movies on, store/listen to music, type, etc.
Something that works fast and stores a good amount of memory.
I am interested in the Sony Vaio....but which one?
Any suggestions? Help...please.

I'm not very good with computer, just the basics, but I know that those specs are way outdated.

However, I think you will find the 600mhz and the ram a bit limiting. For what you want, yes it can do most of it... browsing, music, etc. But when you hit some flash content like Youtube I'm not sure if you will have enough speed to play it smoothly, I had a IBM T20 (850mhz) that would stutter on youtube videos but at most movies in AVI did play smoothly. And the ram... To put that 196mb ram into perspective, firefox on average uses 100mb ram... windows 2000 will do okay with 64mb ram so you would be more limited if you happen to like multitasking.
If you want to go mobile with it and 10" screen seems quite mobile, you will want a battery for it and I can't seem to find any on ebay atm but they are about 30-60.
A wireless PCMCIA wireless card goes for $20-30... but my experience with wireless+windows 2000 = pain
The ram is expensive to replace/upgrade and they don't mention the hard drive size, but I assume its about 12gb which drove me insane when I had mine.
It sounds bad, but the good side to it is its really cheap and if you have use for a throw around computer without much expectations like to chat, go on soompi, listen to some music, watch a movie if you are patient enough to transfer it in (uses old usb 1.1 not the new 2.0) its not bad all... Personally if I had the choice to get a ultraportable, I would get that over the Asus EEE and use that money I saved for other things. (Keep in mind, ultraportables are like PDAs they are a supplement but not a real replacement for a "real" computer)
