i need one that's light weight and has a long battery life.
i was thinking of the macbook or the sony SR series (they both have a screen size of 13.3" i believe.)
and they're both pretty pricy too. xD

they are, but the macbook is nearly a year old in its current configuration while the chassis itself is 3? generations old. the SR was just released last month and is the first of its generation. Either are probably more than enough for your needs.. but between the two.. if you're not picky on operating systems.. I like the SR because it has an LED backlit screen, option for video card, and is built alittle better.
however if long battery life is what you want.. look at the Dell Latitude E series or the Lenovo Thinkpad T400. they are both new models with really high battery life, especially the T400.

that will be real tough to be honest.. and no Asus will be that cheap. Take a look at the dell Inspiron 13 (very new).. 13.3" and has a built in webcam, not bad looking. Most laptops at that price range are the heavier 15.4", so you don't have many options all together.

well, whats your budget? there's lots of light weight laptops and many laptops have webcams now. The game thing may be an issue depending on what games you play. So tell me your budget and the games you want to play..

2 grand is a pretty decent budget and you got lots of models to choose from. how small do you want it to be? you should probably go to a electronics store like best buy and see what model you like.. memorize the screen size, then post it here so you can see alternatives

you have a pretty good budget to work with and most notebooks will fall within your price range ( and i also don't recommend spending over $2k in a notebook anyways)
the games you mentioned aren't video card intensive so almost any notebook will do.
The SR is a nice laptop, its a new model from Sony that replaced the SZ series. If you get this one, make sure you get one with LED backlit screen (i think this may be default).. and perhaps dedicated video card (this is NOT default so make sure it has the ATi Card in it.. although its also not needed to play those games.. however it may "future proof" you for other games in the future..)
The Z series however, is Sony's better 13" laptop.. it uses a 16 : 9 ratio screen and incorporates better build materials than the SR..but its also alot more expensive than the SR.. (but still under $2k). It also has the better screen.
if you go for either the SR or the Z, its either better to buy it through www.portableone.com. they may not be the cheapest..but they are one of the cheaper dealers, you do NOT get charged sales tax which can be in the hundreds (only california gets charged).. and you get great support!
or you can call Sonystyle (their number on their site) and haggle with the operator as they can have some kind of "hidden" coupon to make things cheaper. Make sure you know what you want as the operators will convince you to buy other things that may be unnecessary. In general, most additional things sold by Sony, Dell, etc tend to be far pricier than if you did a search by yourself. Something cheap can end up ballooning up to several hundred dollars more expensive. Make sure you dominate the conversation and sound like you know what you want. Some one unsure is easier for them to take advantage, allowing them to use scare tactics "if you don't get this, your computer wont be good, etc".
however if you are into cheaper laptops..you can get the Dell Inspiron 13, which is like $700.. then use the saved money 2 years later (or even a year later) for a newer cheaper model which will have newer additions, which may cost even less than had you bought 1 older (but better built) laptop

forget both of them.. they're old news.
take a look at the HP DV4 series, its the newer model and has both AMD and intel versions.
RAM and CPU can be changed on any computer so its up to you on how much you're willing to spend.. however your budget is on the lower end.
Compaq is part of HP, they're the same laptops more or less.
The dell inspiron 13 is also within your budget, buti ts a 13.3" laptop (not too many new laptops are being made in 14.1" these days, they're adopting 13.3" instead).
if you got more money to burn, the Lenovo Thinkpad T400 offers the best quality/price ratio at the moment for a 14.1"

I don't follow HP's coupons (i'm not an HP fan, but I do admit, their offerings this year give you alot for your money) so I can't help you. Best you check notebookreview.com for up to date info on coupons and deals (its where I go). If you do go for the DV4 series, I think its worth it to spend a little more and get the LED backlit screen. its worth it.
There was a deal for the Dell Vostro 1310 not too long ago. I think it may come within your budget and is 13.3". But probably the Inspiron 13 is the best bet.. it doesn't offer anything special.. its just that it offers quite alot for its price and isn't bad looking at all either.

yup that's the one! pretty good deal for what you get. Most cheapo laptops around that price range are the larger, heavier 15.4" models. This is probably the first time I've seen a 13.3" for so cheap (and that isn't old)

please read the guide. it would help alot if you knew what you wanted to do with a computer. Although if he just ordered it himself, do you have the power to change his decision?
