Only the Vaio above is using newer technology.. the Gateway and Dell are models from last year.. they are using the older cpu.
In all honesty, all 4 will do what you want just fine.. your needs are nothing special and you will probably not notice the difference between any of them. The Vaio will also be bigger and heavier than the other 3.. but like I said, it is newer and using a more current CPU than the other 3.
However, the HP has an HDMI port. If you're going to use that, then go for the HP.

Anything seems good to me since I've lived with a crappy desktop for too long.
Well, I'm planning to buy one at the end of December or January so I'd like some help ^^"
All that I know of that I want are:
15" widescreen
Portable
Possible gaming
Long battery life
$700 at most... but would prefer $600 or less
Videos, DVDs, music, pictures...
(^ but I might just keep those on my desktop since they're already there so these aren't as important)
The budget is tight but I'm willing to raise the price, even if it's a couple hundred, just as long as it's worth it.
Thank you so much for the help (in advance) ^___^"

what kind of gaming? the types of games you will play will depend on what video card can handle it. But in general
the video card will affect your battery life.

I'm a university student and just need something thats lightweight to carry around campus and such. I plan on using it quite often, almost like a deskop since I'm usually never home.
Which would you recommend for me??
Thanks

Well.. there are lighter HP models. The Pavilion has 13.3" an 14.1" models if you find the 15.4" too big.
Not that the Dell is bad for its size and price (its actually quite good).. but the one great thing about Dell is the return policy.. its very lenient and worth factoring in. (that's if you buy direct from Dell)

the 290 is a customizable version. If you have specific needs, the 290 is the best way to go.
Most laptops being sold on black friday are usually low end models (either old models from last year or this years models but at the lower end of the product line up from the manufacturer). Whether or not this is enough for your needs depends on you. For most people who only use the internet for web browsing, dvd watching, downloading, music, amateur photoshopping.. its good enough.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of selection of HP laptops with the processor and everything I'm looking for, that's already in the Dell.
I just cheap a good enough laptop that's cheap and lightweight. I'm planning to replace it in a couple of years or so when I have more money lol
I have the HP Pavillion dv4 and its 14.1 and weighs almost 6lbs, more than my boyfriend's Inspiron15. >.< He keeps insisting I get the Dell, but I just don't really like the look compared to the HP or Toshiba.. Thanks again for your opinion - I'll be sure to get the Dell

I'm a college freshman in desperate need of laptop for school. What would you recommend with these requirements?
-awesome battery life
-full-sized keyboard
-great wifi connection
-lightweight
-doesn't heat up like mad
-faster than light
-decent hdd (~120 or more)
I'm willing to spend ~1.5k.

you probably should stick to a laptop within 12" to 14".
do you need a dedicated video card?

do you need a dedicated video card?

if you mean by streaming videos, a dedicated video card is not needed for that.
with your budget you have a range of options but for best battery life, small size, and sturdiness
I suggest either a Lenovo T400 or X301. They may look very conservative but they will give you very good battery life (one of the best out of the new models this year) and one of the best keyboards for a notebook.
the Dell Latitude E series will also be a good choice.
These are business notebooks so they tend to look conservative, but tend to be much better built than regular consumer notebooks (which is also alot cheaper, but you get what you pay for).
The plus side with Dell is that they have very lenient return policies.. so you can return it if you don't like it. Lenovo will charge restocking fees though.
the Sony Vaio SR is also nice, and if you like Macs, the new Apple macbook will work well for you too.
if you're on a budget and don't care about flashy looks or something sturdy, then the Inspiron 13 will be good enough

Its amazing to see it, in terms of graphics card that blows the 8400m I have away. The build quality and design remind me of my T20 which I thought was designed very well... those laptops don't have a row of blue media buttons shining all the time.
Speaking of blowing away... my fan is on 24/7... on a flat metal surface the warmest spot on the bottom of my laptop is always about 110F and the fan is on trying to cool the worthless GPU (was bios update for inevitable burn out of the nvidia 8000 cards) my hard drive is always hot under my palm rest. I have a feeling my desktop is quieter now. (I clean out the vents weekly, I don't have a dusty fan)
In terms of wear I had this DV2700 since February 08, one week after I got it, the F key and space bar got shiny. Now, about half of the keys are shiny (but letters are still there) and my left click of my touchpad is now wearing away, under the silver paint is a black button.
But the battery life is simply amazing. About 8 hours that's beyond madness. With a 6 cell... screen on lowest, cpu on power save 50%, wifi on power save... I got little over two hours. With the 12 cell which sticks out ugly, over 4 hours. And shockingly the reason is obvious, they didn't invent better batteries but 10.2 watts idle?! This laptop does 23 watts with the screen off, wifi off, and who knows what else off... but averages 28 watts just sitting there with everything on low.
Now I remember why I don't enjoy reading reviews of new computers and laptops!
One day, I will get a job... and unlike those people who say they will get a car, I will get a laptop.

they are two different companies that make CPUs among other things.
its like the Honda and Toyota of CPUs.
well.. at least in notebooks.. AMD hasn't been as successful as Intel and most of their chips tend to be relegated to budget models (AMD is cheaper)

My budget for a laptop is around $500-$800.
The things I want are, CD/DVD Burner, built-in webcam, good battery life, light weight but still should be able to watch my favorite shows in a good size screen, decent memory storage.
I'm leaning towards a Sony Vaio/Dell/Hp but I have no idea which one to get with my budget.
Thank you

you won't get any light weight Vaio with that budget. The only thing they have in that range is the NS series which is kind of heavy
..also a "good Size" screen (in which you mean big) does not go hand in hand with light weight.
You should stick to 13-14".
check out the Dell Inspiron 13. It should fit within your price range and still be somewhat light.
