either is quite fine and will probably do what you want on it as long as its not gaming.
However.. the Asus model has a far better selection of ports, which may be important if you plan on using them i.e E-Sata and HDMI.
if its within your budget, check out the Lenovo U330 which should be better built than both of them, but may be pricier.

this is a buying guide, not a troubleshooting thread.
and you better check if your laptop is still under warranty in the first place, and if it still is, just give them a call. they probably should.

i'm so new to this whole netbook thing.
so i've been wanting to get a netbook. either a ASUS brand or ACER brand.
which brand is better?
i've been looking at reviews on bestbuy.com and amazon.com. the people bestbuy.com say that their acer netbook shut off on them is really a really bad netbook to get. and the reviews on the asus one say that they are good. so i'm just debating.
and do you know where to buy them from? i've been looking to buy on either bestbuy.com or amazon.com. but the models on bestbuy.com look really old. i dont know which models are the newest or not. so can someone tell me what the newest model's number is supposed to be ?
i also want it in pink and to have a webcam (;
thanks for helping ! ;D

check out the netbook thread in the main forum.
I don't think Acer or Asus has any models in pink.
All netbooks aren't very well built, thats one of the reasons why they are cheap (except the Vaio P series, which is a netbook with a price of a notebook).
The Asus EEE series, well there's a ton of versions and quite frankly I lost count . Their higher end model, which I believe had a 10" screen and brushed aluminum palm rest was supposed to be good but also pricey. the Acer Aspire one, for a netbook under $300 is good. And quite frankly, if you were to ask me, I would never spend more than $300 on a netbook.

well, fortunately for you most notebooks can do what you want as its not too demanding.. hell netbooks too.
but white is the tricky part, and so is the 15.4".
The reason being, there WAS a special version of the DV5T that was white, but they removed it a few months ago and don't even sell 15.4" laptops anymore as they moved to 16". Dell also HAD white versions of the XPS series, Studio 15 and Inspiron 15.. but they no longer ofter them, and will eventually phase out 15.4" lines all together.
Sony HAD a 15.4" FZ model, but the series was replaced by the 16" FW series. the FW series has a white lid option (but the keyboard is silver, and the bottom is black).
Unfortunately I think you may have to drop your requirement for "white"

Well, it wasn't troubleshooting since I know what the problem is. I assumed handling warranty would go with the buying of a laptop. My baaad~

it depends what brand you want.
bestbuy and amazon just carry a wide variety (NewEgg, Frys Electronics too) but they may not be the best place (for online purchases).
For example the best places to buy Dell is usually Dell themselves because they offer a large amount of coupons.
Sometimes Sony Vaios are cheaper to buy over Sonystyle (via p hone operator) because you can haggle, but sometimes places like best buy sell
lower end vaios for very cheap at certain times.

I've seen you mention Lenovo U330 and was wondering if you would recommend for someone who just needs it for academic work, downloading, ad Adobe Photoshopping work? I know you told me to look into Dell (the business ones) but I'm still trying hard not to buy from them.
Thank you
P.S. If you do recommend it, where do you think is a good place to buy it (with warranty included)? I've only brought from Dell so I'm clueless in that area.

sure, any computer can do what you want. Unless you are a hard core graphic artist who demands color accuracy.. then no laptop will be fit for you unless it uses an RGB screen. And I emphasize graphic artists as the many people who occasionally use photoshop or don't do anything professional with it, won't make a difference.
the best place for the U330 is usually Lenovo themselves.. but that's if you can find some discounts or coupons to use for it. don't ask me for them, check notebookreview forums or other sites that specialize on deals.
Around the same price range (but a bit more expensive), you can get the white macbook as well.
see earlier posts.

I tried to find reviews but had no luck so far. I'm just wondering its performance, such as graphics, speed and battery life etc when compared to other laptops. Another concern I'm having is I heard Toshiba's laptop battery tends to die after the 1 year warrenty. Is that true? Should that factor affect my decision to buy this laptop? Would you recommend this laptop?
Thanks

What's the difference between the Lenovo IdeaPad U330 - 22672AU and the Lenovo IdeaPad U330 - 22672BU besides the name and the pricing? The reviews seem to be exactly the same.
Which white Macbook are you referring to? Sorry, not familiar with their products but would be interested in looking into it.
Are there any other notebooks you would recommend with my requirements? I don't have a set price range but I just want something that is affordable.
Thanks once again

I don't know to be honest, did you take a look at the specs? perhaps one has something slightly different than the other.
as for macbook, there's two.. the white one and the aluminum one. the white one is slightly heavier and thicker (but still very thin for a 13.3" notebook, but heavy for its size too), does not use an LED screen, and uses mostly a plastic body.
those two models are 13.3" that have dedicated video cards and could be had for under $1000. You may be able to grab a Sony Vaio SR series if you can get the right coupon codes. THere's also the new Dell Studio XPS 13. if you don't need them now, then wait because new notebooks will come out in the next two months.

its only similar to the macbook in its size. it uses an older chipset and will not feature the better integrated graphics card that the current macbook uses.
laptop battery depends on the company that makes the battery not the laptop manufacturer. And everyone has different scenarios.. some people see their battery die in a year, others don't. but in general, battery life gets worse over time. its not meant to last forever.
in anycase, read the replies I've given to the previous user as she's lookng for the same thing.

Ah okay, thanks for the speedy reply. Unfortunately I can't wait and really need one for academic usage and I went with the white Macbook
