but the model you listed is a budget model. it of course will still do the basic tasks you want but its not powerful, and its rather bulky. Are you really okay doing lots of travel with a 15.6". what is your actual budget anyways? if you want something good and that will last long, you better be prepared to pay the cost.

Thanks for the advice. I'm actually only trying to pay about $500 max because i'm on a really tight budget. i wont be traveling a lot but i do need a lap top because i'm going to be in korea and staying there for a year. do you know or have any suggestions of which laptop might be useful? i was planning on buying a netbook because it's so portable and it performs simple tasks and plus the fact taht they're really cheap. do you think i should just buy a netbook instead?

well it ultimately depends on whether you'll have access to another computer or not. Netbooks are meant to be supplements to your desktop or a larger notebook. They can be too small and/or too weak for every day use.. they have enough power to do things like surf the web, some microsoft office, etc.. but some people may want more speed, better video processing abilities, etc, and a netbook won't cut it. if you're at $500 max, you're really limited to budget notebooks (which are usually large) or netbooks.

if you have the money, Lenovo released a new model called the T400s (with an S) that looks very impressive and light.

it's a little pricier than the average, but looks good, is fairly light, and good battery life
do you think it's worth the extra $$$?

depends on how long you're planning to wait.
Acer just released pics of the new Timeline 1810T 11.6" netbook, but its a size up from the 8.9" you're going after (and will most likely be alot pricier).
There's also a new Intel netbook CPU coming around the time of October as well.

well, it could be said that all Vaios are pricier than average
I don't know about the SR refresh but the first generation of SR was pretty nice.. not as good as the Vaio Z series, but it was much much cheaper.
I think the SR series is a step up from the previous SZ series. I just don't like its limited port selection, but if you don't use them then its not a problem.

I wouldn't know but I have that same netbook.
It's pretty good for the price. Though as I am sure you already know it's not good for more than the basics. Even though I don't save stuff to mine it still runs some programs slow (Zune, Photoshop, ect) but it wasn't really made to do a whole lot right? I love the size but if you get it get a really thick case for it. Mine was in my purse and got hit (some pushed me >_<) then a piece came off the side but it still worked fine. I've also noticed with it (not just mine) they get really hot very quickly. Even when elevated and in a cool place it got pretty hot. I also would not recommend using it for hours at a time (it WILL shut down on you quick)., so try to limit how much you use it at once.
The Mics suck, as so many built in ones. Camera's okay when there is good lighting -but that's every cam anyway. It's fragile so if you get one protect it like crazy!
But overall it's pretty good. If you are using it in high school it's good for taking notes. Most definitely not good for a college student.
I love it but I'm still getting a another laptop. Really good for on the go & as stated above, the basics. Nothing serious or you'll kill it quick.
Hope I helped somehow <3 You can ask me if you have any other quesitons

the new timeline sounds pretty nice (with windows 7 too) but i want something really small and cheap (anything over 10" and $350 is =/). im waiting till like end of sept, beginning of oct.

haha yea, i already have a laptop so im buying a netbook simply for note-taking and coffee shop breaks. people take notes with laptop in high school?! thats new....it definitely comes in handy in college, my laptop is too heavy to carry around everywhere (my campus is HUGE too). the acer 8.9 netbook has pretty good reviews online also, but its out of stock at a lot of places =/
thank you so much for your review!

hm at $350 budget, you're kinda limited to some of the lower tier netbooks (which should be good enough if you just want to do note taking).. and the Acer Aspire One will be good enough, although there's certain Asus EEE PC models, Dell Mini series and MSI netbooks that can also be as cheap. Spec wise, most of them are more or less the same really.

lol; your welcome! I was thinking you would already know some of that since it's it's a netbook. I had a friend graduate back in may and the first thing he said was he going to get the netbook I have for college Dx he knows nothing about computers-or electronics in general xDD I got mine at Walmart.
oh not really. I just brought mine because I was sick of missing notes by teachers. *coughANDTOGETONSOOMPIcough*
EDIT: you got some awesome art on your dA! I gotta watch you now <3

it depends which Dell Mini, they have only the mini 10 and 12 now, the 10 will be closer to the Acer Aspire One in size.
specs wise they'll usually have the same configuration options as most netbooks although the Mini 10 has an HDMI port if you are interested in using that from a netbook (most people probably won't utilize it at least not from a netbook). They will both perform the above tasks equally.
the Dell Mini can usually be had for cheaper and some people may not like the Acer Aspire One's side mouse buttons.

I was also planning to buy a laptop this year, cause I will go to US this summer. Which one should I buy ? I'm not that good at choosing the right one. But i'm sure i need a quite good one, but not too expensive. I was thinking about the budget which is about 500-1000 $.So what should I choose?
This year I'll be in the senior class and I plan to buy a laptop for college. Since I'm planning to study in US what kind of laptop should I actually buy ? ==' People told me that macbooks are okay... what do you think??
