Haha, you are so funny!

Actually I do have a laptop.. but its really my dad's laptop. We fight over it all the time (even though we have 3 other pcs in the house. Amazing, I know.) I just got into this NYU program with scholarship so my dad is all happy and well, it means I get to get something nice..
I just came back from Circuit City and I saw that a 14" isn't even that big. I think I'm going to increase my range and say that 14" is my max. That MSI looks nice but I just read you have to build it yourself? I'm not into the whole I-built-my-own-computer thing... My dad did it once but he said it was a waste of time, although cheaper
I also read about the Thinkpad .. but the thing is I've never bought an IBM laptop before and I'm pretty biased for Dell / HP.. lol brand loyalty.. In addition its so expensive =x
*gah* laptop shopping is so difficult

I must research some more!
they may not look too different in size, but you will feel it when carrying it around.
As for the MSI, that's what whitebooks are.. the ability to build them yourself. However there are resellers who are willing to do that for you. the two best MSI resellers are www.xmeld.com and www.rawpowerpc.com. They'll do the configuration for you and build it as well as doing the repairs should you need to send it in (This is one reason why I prefer whitebooks, you have more direct contact with the resellers who can maintain it instead of a "faceless" big name company). Furthermore, provided that you live in a different state from these resellers, you can avoid paying SALES TAX. That is something you CAN'T do with name brands.
IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads are expensive for a reason.. they're tough! they're one of those brands where you can stomp on em repeatedly and it'll still work. This couple hid their laptop in an oven when they went on a trip, and came back totally forgetting it was still there.. even after turning it on and melting a number of its parts..it was still fully functional. Of course I hope you won't be the type who puts their laptops in an oven or stomps on it. Like Dot1q said before, almost all major corporations use either Dell Latitudes or IBM for their business notebooks.
as far as 14" goes.. the cheapest is the Dell Inspiron E1405.. it could be had for less than $800. the Portable One MX (Asus A8jm) is the most powerful 14" in the US and is priced at $1550. Some others worth mentioning, Asus Z62f, Asus W3V (with rebates is $1299), and IBM/Lenovo Z61t

What does that mean? I'm so noobish when it comes to laptops. x[
performance comes at the cost of battery life.
When ever you add a more powerful GPU (i.e 1.66ghz to 2.13ghz), it'll come at the expense of battery life
you throw in a vid card.. it'll come at the expense of battery life. You throw in a more powerful one, it'll suck more battery life.
larger screen size sucks more battery life
wi-fi sucks battery life, etc.
