Well my brother had ordered the Macbook online and since his shipping address for his bank account is different from my home (he doesnt live with us anymore) they said he must call his bank to add our address to his bank account. This would be fine and merry if he had regulary access to a phone. Recently the phones went out so he hasn't been able to call and they'll cancel the order soon so I'm going to tell him to forget it and get me something else (I was kind of iffy on the Macbook because of its problem with power point compatability and the fact I would have to buy microsoft office 2004 for it and the whole OS change is daunting. this hassel makes the macbook even less desirable for me). limit is $1000~ even while lets say i'm just typing the video card would still make a huge difference on battery life?
outside of the Dell E1505, you're not going to find a laptop that is under $1000 AND sporting a dedicated video card. Furthermore, the E1505 is significantly heavier and bigger compared to the macbook. Despite it's heat issues, the macbook is a pretty nice deal for that type of notebook.
The battery estimates I gave you are max.. as in with brightness reduced, wi-fi off, and simple tasks being performed. Do gaming, movie watching, etc.. start watching the 3 hour max be reduced to 2- 2 and a half hours.
how bout this, in the other thread you were considering getting a video card right? you might as well not consider it at all and use the money there to get a better notebook. ALL new notebooks now are on PCI-E, and the weakest PCI-E card is most likely superior to the best PCI card to which you are limited to.
If you want to forego the video card requirement, there's lots of notebooks out there that can be had for less than $1000, particulary those in Dell. Asus has a 13.3" with integrated graphics, and a white chassis coming out soon, called the Z35f.. looks like this one here

but will be newer.
other wise if you demand some gaming and still want some portability.. the Compal HGL30 is probably your only bet.. at base configuration, it could be had for less than $1200, comes with an Nvidia 7600 card (the best card in a 14" widescreen), and a large 9-cell battery (probably 3:30-4hrs). Its downside is that it's got a teal blue lid.
