I am planning to get a new laptop, but I'm not sure of the brand.

I was browsing through the ecost catalog when I saw a brand called Acer. Is that a good brand? I have a Toshiba from like two years ago and the battery life sucks sleep.gif plus, I kept on getting that "memory" problem message.....when I bought it it was like $1000. Compared to Dell, is Acer better in terms of stability, battery life, and weight? What about Asus?

depends what model and what line.. not every laptop a company produces are built the same. Acer has three lines.. the cheaper Travelmate, more upperscale Aspire line, and the expensive, but better built Ferrari. Same for Dell, the Inspiron line is incredibly average, and cheap in terms of price, but the Latitude incorporates better materials. Asus has the Built On line and the Ensemble line.

What about this one?

Acer Aspire AMD Turion 1.8GHz DVD±RW Wireless Notebook ( 5003WLMi-WinXP Pro . for $826.07? I just want something lightweighted, yet has great memory and lots of space and good processor. Something that I can carry around and do my projects and presentations on

Please take caution when making purchases from ecost, especially when you're paying that much.

when it comes to laptops, I would be extra picky on where to purchase from because they are expensive purchases, and there's a number of areas where such large online retailers offer poor warranty or return. Even NewEgg is a bad choice for laptops due to their dead pixel policy (i mean come on 7 dead pixels?).

Unfortunately for you, light weight does not mean cheap. Most budget models (those under $1000) are either 14" or 15.4" laptops that range from 5-8lbs. anything larger or smaller than those two screen sizes, are usually more expensive.

i think you need to figure out what screen size you want.. you got a 12" and a 15.4" model listed, theres a 3lb difference between them.

Meant for business or not is not much of an issue, the Latitude line is generally more expensive because they incorporate better construction and I don't recall there ever being Dell coupons for those (its almost always their Inspiron line).

it'll probably reduce it to 5-6 degrees? ultimately its up to you.. all notebooks are about compromise. the Macs (provided its the one around $1000) are a good value for the features it offers and the build quality. However its thin nature makes it more prone to heating.. not just Macs but other notebooks that are thin (Vaios, Asus Ensembles, etc). I think a good question to ask is if you can work with a Mac OS or if you need dedicated video.

Okay, so far I had my eyes set on Dell 1405 or whatever, but Costco is selling Toshiba Satellite 14" Widescreen Notebook for 900 with rebate. I don't know anything about that notebook. Which one would you recommend?

Hard to say with out telling me what you need. Although I would prefer the Dell.. it certainly can be had for less than 900 with OUT rebates.

the Z33ae was GREAT............ FOR ITS TIME. It was during a time when Asus' "Built On" line featured laptops comparable in build and style to their "Ensemble" line. the Z33ae (M5 elsewhere) was one of these.. where it was made out of carbon fiber and was very sturdy.

However this is a 2005 model, it's already reached its end of life. It's replaced by the Z35f in Asus' line up.

The cable looks like this, CAT 5 or CAT 6 will do just fine.

Any network card should do fine, here is one at BB for $10.

I need help. I'm starting to consider which laptop to buy. I've been saving and right now I'm thinking of getting a Mac Book or a Dell M1210. My use is just for school, media, no gaming, internet usage, etc. So I don't really need a good video card or high ram unless someone recommends it. Which one is better for everyday usage for a teenager? Thanks.

Okay so I need a new laptop. My older brother is toootally more knowledgeable about laptops but for some reason he's not willing to help me choose. But he did give me guidelines:

- Acer, Toshiba, or Lenovo
- Intel processor
- Under $1000

And I personally want it to be around 14" and just.. not bulky, because I'm going to college this fall and I'm pretty sure I'll be traveling with it, to the library and class and whatnot.

I don't need any special gaming features or anything. I just do school-related stuff, download, and listen to music.

He told me to go to www.newegg.com to choose but I can't tell a good deal from a bad deal x_X
Here are some random ones I checked out just based on my very general guidelines. How are they?

OOOOKAY NEVERMIND THIS POST. My brother and I decided on this laptop:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16834146154

please tell me we made a good choice haha
The only flaw my brother and I found with this laptop was its appearance. It's pretty ugly hahah

I initially REEALLY wanted a 14.1" because it's not too big and not too small. But jeez not many of those exist!
current...

I'd take the Macbook (although you should be prepared for the transition to mac OS and the Mac keyboard (page up and page down for example, do not have their own keys). It'll be cheaper (if that $999 deal still exists) and its really nice looking.. downside is the heat issue. The Dell M1210 is most popular for being one of the few (if not only current notebook) with a dedicated video card.. however the inclusion of the video card reduces the battery life significantly..and the notebook is thicker and heavier than most other 12" models in order to deal with the heat produced from it. of course the M1210 has an integrated graphics option..you're still left with a 12" notebook thats heavier than the macbook and quite thick too. I also don't think they release coupons for this model either.

i've seen uglier and this one isn't half bad in my opinion. Lenovo makes solid notebooks. Their regular line isn't as "elite" as the Thinkpad line, but it's still better than average. However there's actually quite alot of 14.1" notebooks, I coulda reccomended a ton as it and 13.3" are my favorite screen sizes tongue.gif
