Hi. I am planning on getting this laptop, but I want some inputs before actually purchasing it.
http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP....mputers_NSeriesSony VAIO- N Series
does anyone have this?
good or bad? any major problems?
thank you~
The N series is Sony's very basic, low end model. There's not too many features on it period. If you're using it for basic tasks like websurfing, it's good enough. However those who need more ports (the thing only has 2 usb ports), video cards, etc should look elsewhere. As far as price vs performance, there are other notebooks that give you more for lesser price.

Hi Range. I currently have a Sony Vaio S series. I rarely use it, in fact I use it once a month or so but today I've noticed heating problems. I've had it on for less than one hour and when I touch the batteries...I couldn't believe the heat. Should I be concerned? I have my AC adapter on and I'm not playing games or anything with my laptop.
Thanks
Was it always that hot or is it something recent? try blowing out the vents with compressed air. Also, I believe some of the S series are included in the big battery recall a few months ago. Better call up Sony and see if yours is included, if so, you get a free replacement battery!

Hi, I have a few questions about laptops. (I ended getting required the dell precision m90 workstation for school) and the two main things that bug me are:
1. Are there any options where we can change the contrast in a screen like we can in a desktop monitor? It's hard to see the light yellows/blues such as a highlighted new email on hotmail. I know there is a brightness adjustment, but that doesn't fix the problem. But from reading the info posted on the first page, I'm afraid I'm stuck with this problem?
and
2. Are laptops usually slower downloading files than desktops? Is there a way we can configure laptops to have faster bandwidth speed? I did a bandwidth speed test on both the laptop and desktop I have, and the desktop was something like 7.9 mb/s, whereas the laptop was slower.. around 1.3 mb/s ...
Anyhoo, whenever I download something with my desktop it usually averages at a speed 600+ kb/s, but for the same file which I had downloaded onto my laptop (not at the same time), it went at 19kb/s
Both are connected with cable connection and are not running on wireless internet ... I hope my questions make sense haha..
Thanks for your help in advance!
Laptop lcds, like desktop lcds still have some limitations when compared to good ol CRTs. You have a default resolution wxga, wxga+, wsxga, wsxga+, wuxga, etc.. you can change the resolution but the contrast will make it look sorta blurry.. so you're pretty much buying as is when it comes to these LCDS. Many of these laptop manufacturers include some software to adjust the colors and brightness, but that's about it Dell's in particular aren't really known for their screens, regardless if they are inspirons, Latitudes, or XPS.
as for 2 and 3, you should post that in troubleshooting and see what the guys there can advise you on the speed issue as you should be getting similar speeds between the two.
