US W7js are only in black although there may be a few who have a small number of white models. As a former owner, its actually heavier than reported. Even though the macbook is actually heavier, it is much thinner and has a significantly lower profile when placed side by side.
I think the user above shouldn't base a notebook solely on color.

Chem is not very likely. You must remember that you have to try to type the notes. You can consider a tablet, but I honestly think thats a waste of time. Battle the touch screen, battle the software, the battery life... might as well just get a big notepad and scribble BIG in there.
Yeah, I think I'm going to take psychology because the class seems much more interesting (and I've read good things about the professor).
Oh, I see.
Thanks for the advice and info guys! :]
I'm taking a look at some laptops right now.

I like the form factor. The screen is nice, but I wish there was a "need sunglasses" mode its supposed to have an ultrabright screen of sorts but I have seen brighter...
Games are really nice... its not gaming grade but it gives me what I desire, the ability to play some when I want at reasonable frame rates. Its definitely not the "my 100fps at 1440x1024 with 16aa 16af pwons U!!!" type but hey 40fps isn't bad. The drivers in Vista SUCK. So far no updates, I updated once and I broke aim and lost 10fps (used laptopvideo2go modified drivers)
The keyboard is definitely usable, but I am a heavy typer and the keys just don't feel like my thinkpad's keyboard so I fear my control key and my space bar will degrade exponentially. I have become accustomed to the smooth touchpad, but the mouse buttons are a little different feeling, like the keys of a keyboard rather than the classic click of a mouse.
The wifi is okay, its the intel B/G card (might be broadcom). Decent range but nothing to brag about, I randomly loose my connection at times even when im less than 10' from the router. It might be my router is getting old and doesn't like the shiny new stuff or my card just sucks. Not sure yet.
Lastly the battery...
Wifi on full power (router doesnt drop as often) screen at lowest setting, CPU at lowest I get about 2minutes per percent.
Normal use 1min 30sec per percent
Full power I don't want to know.
So basically battery life stinks. Still get at least 1 or 2 hours from it but I was hoping for more.

I'm going off to college in the fall and I'm on a laptop hunt right now. It'll be used for school, of course, as well as for watching movies/dramas, surfing, holding massive amounts of pictures (because I'm too lazy to burn them to CDs although I should), etc. Not really for gaming and all.
I'll probably buy it from Circuit City or Best Buy because my parents don't want to order it online. They want to see it physically and be able to bring it somewhere to get it fixed if something happens (rather than doing things online and over the phone).
So I've been looking and I found this.. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Specificati...ication.do#tabs
I have a Sony desktop and I'm leaning toward a Sony, but that's only because they're pretty and I don't know anything about PCs.
Can I get a second opinion on it? Is it a good price? Will it last me about four years or so? Will its battery life be okay for a college student? I think two reviews said the battery life sucks.
Or are their any other reccomendations?
Thanks in advance!

AMD laptop cpus are always cheaper.. but they're not very popular for the reasons Awdark mentioned. you usually see them in models that are aimed towards low budget people.

its okay.. the real plus side is that its got a large hard drive. However for less you can get the Sony SZ which is built better than the all plastic (and very thick and heavy for a 13.3") Sony C models. However since your parents don't want to order online, its their loss. You can find much better pricing online and can avoid sales tax (which can be alot).

all laptops can do that, just get a dvd burner and more ram and a higher processor. you need to be more specific in your needs. Go to a store and see what appeals to you, then compare what other notebooks can be compared to it in that category.

Anyway, i was thinking about "building my own notebook." And i was thinking about 1500ish, but with accessories and everything, it came out to be more than that...
a couple more questions...
is there a big difference between Intel® Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache) and Intel® Core 2 Duo T5600(1.83GHz/2MB L2Cache)?
I don't really play games, but i watch a lot of hq/hd videos and i multi-task...and i'd love to run my virus scan without programs lagging too much (lol)
and what's the difference between primary batteries and replacement batteries? Would it be better to get 2 primary batteries, or one of each?
I don't think i'll be traveling a lot..but I can imagine myself studying at the library a lot next year (since i'm going off to college) so yeah.

I rarely go over $1600 personally simply because after a certain point, I could invest more in a desktop which will always give you better specs for the money.
1i.83ghz to 2.0ghz isn't really noticeable but some people think the difference in cache size is noticeable. but for the sheer majority of normal computer users, they won't notice anything at all simply because they don't really do things that push the computer limits.
don't get two batteries at the same time. battery life gradually fades. you usually buy a 2nd one when the first one is worn out. just bring the power supply as most college libraries will have outlets for you to use.
thanks
any laptop can be decent. depends what you expect out of it.

Can any of you that have/use this before share your experience here? Especially about the noise it makes, in the user opinions that i read in notebookreview.com most of them complains about high pitched noise (and it made most of them chose to return this laptop), but surprisingly others make comments that this laptop is very quiet, so it got me really confuse
Thanks in advance!

The high pitched sound isnt all that bad you know how you can kinda hear a TV even when its muted? Its similar to that like a Eeeee it doesnt happen on all of them because that comes as a result of the voltage regulators vibrating so it is random and wont always occur.
I only have 1 fan in mine and it doesnt always turn on and its not too loud.

I just read the 1st page, thanks so much Range for posting the guide.
But now i get more confused about what laptop i should get. I will use this laptop for graphic, video editing & i often run multiple programs at the same time.
I choose the HP dv6000t coz overall the review sites give this laptop a good review and high points
But now after i read the first few pages here, Dell Inspiron sounds good too.
And if i compare these 2 with similar components (i think
Are this spec enough for what i intend it to do? Which one you would recommend? or Do you have a different suggestion?
The spec that i choose are:
Processor- HP: Intel® Pentium® dual core T2060(1.6GHz/1MB L2) ; Dell: AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile Technology MK-36
Graphic card- HP:Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 - Core , Dell: ATI RADEON® Xpress1150 256MB HyperMemory™ (Integrated)[i]
Memory- HP: [i]1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm); Dell: 1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHZ, 2 DIMM
HardDrive- HP: 120GB 5400RPM; Dell: 160GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive

how much are you willing to spend?
for notebooks under $1000 that have current cpus and a GPU.. you're pretty much stuck with Dell or HP/Compaq
