Popularly viewed as one of the best American films ever made, the multi-generational crime saga The Godfather is a touchstone of cinema: one of the most widely imitated, quoted, and lampooned movies of all time. Marlon Brando and Al Pacino star as Vito Corleone and his youngest son, Michael, respectively. It is the late 1940s in New York and Corleone is, in the parlance of organized crime, a "godfather" or "don," the head of a Mafia family. Michael, a free thinker who defied his father by enlisting in the Marines to fight in World War II, has returned a captain and a war hero. Having long ago rejected the family business, Michael shows up at the wedding of his sister, Connie (Talia Shire), with his non-Italian girlfriend, Kay (Diane Keaton), who learns for the first time about the family "business." A few months later at Christmas time, the don barely survives being shot by gunmen in the employ of a drug-trafficking rival whose request for aid from the Corleones' political connections was rejected. After saving his father from a second assassination attempt, Michael persuades his hotheaded eldest brother, Sonny (James Caan), and family advisors Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall) and Sal Tessio (Abe Vigoda) that he should be the one to exact revenge on the men responsible.

After murdering a corrupt police captain and the drug trafficker, Michael hides out in Sicily while a gang war erupts at home. Falling in love with a local girl, Michael marries her, but she is later slain by Corleone enemies in an attempt on Michael's life. Sonny is also butchered, having been betrayed by Connie's husband. As Michael returns home and convinces Kay to marry him, his father recovers and makes peace with his rivals, realizing that another powerful don was pulling the strings behind the narcotics endeavor that began the gang warfare. Once Michael has been groomed as the new don, he leads the family to a new era of prosperity, then launches a campaign of murderous revenge against those who once tried to wipe out the Corleones, consolidating his family's power and completing his own moral downfall. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards and winning for Best Picture, Best Actor (Marlon Brando), and Best Adapted Screenplay, The Godfather was followed by a pair of sequels.

For awhile I watched this movie about two times a week. It's among one of my favorite movies of all time. The transition Michael makes from wanting nothing to do with his family's business to ultimately being the boss is amazing, and Francis Ford Coppola did a fantastic job casting as well as shooting some of the most memorable scenes in cinematic history. You see so many people reenacting them, like on the Simpsons when Marge beats up that man who mugged her. laugh.gif

I just rented part I and part II this past weekend after reading the book. Both Brando and Pacino are fantastic. Pacino looks quite attractive as Michael Corleone. Too bad he's obviously way shorter than everybody else. tongue.gif

This movie is one of my all-time favorites because I can relate to Michael in so many ways. Guh, hate that I love my father that much.sleep.gif

If you think Pacino is attractive in here, then you've GOT to see him in "Scarface." Oh, mannnnnnn, was he HOTTTTTTTTT. w00t.gif w00t.gif blush.gif wub.gif phew.gif blush.gif ARUGH, another gory, yet brilliant film. Anywho, Brando and De Niro blew me away with their astounding performances. In fact, I fell in love with De Niro/young Vito in here because he was, imo, a badass man and father. cool.gif

I watched this movie in my music and film class.
The music was wonderful and I really liked the theme...

Just I only saw parts of the whole thing so I was planning to kind of watch this movie.
But one of the scenes (Like the horse head scene) scared me like crazy so I was like, "...I don't know if I can watch it." lol.

I kind of like how movies in the 1970s-1980s were really creative and open about many movie ideas.

Amaaazing. Whenever it's on and I'm doing something else, my dad makes me come in the room for the "Leave the gun...take the cannolis" part.

Really well-made film--dramatic without being cheesy, intense, great performances, memorable music...love it.

I could watch that film again and again. I always get caught up watching it on TV when I have like a 1,000 other things to do...oh well!
I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it's the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It's probably the most important thing in a person.

My bf always talks about this movie. He even has the song as his ringtone. sleep.gif I know the movie, know the story, just never had the urge to watch it. Not really a big fan of these types of movies and I don't watch movies often. Or atleast I didn't used to. I watch more movies now since my bf enjoys them.
Some say i'm a genius, others say i'm crazy
but they all say i'm a little on the weird side
