I'm pretty sure these sites restrict the download limit to free users but my question is why? Also, I've been able to download at speeds of 500 kb/s from these file hosting sites before but now all of a sudden I'm stuck at 50. Is this the fault of my Internet or the fact that filehosting sites tend to restrict the download limit of users?
Really had two questions there, haha.

They do it so you will go nuts and pay for the service.
A lot of times you end up downloading really slow because they give your downloads the lowest priority and the ones who pay a higher priority in speeds. So its probably not your internet's fault and the download site giving you the slowness.

Oh alright then. What are some sites that don't have restrictions on their download rates?

if you use firefox, i suggest downloading skip screen. if you dont want to wait for the timer, it skips it for you. it works on MU, Zshare, and most others.

You can just type "java script:alert (count=1)" in your URL bar and press enter, it'll skip the timer. (It works on MU, never tried others.)
These file hosting sites put a cap on the amount of data you can download per second, MU usually doesn't as I've done 2MB/ps from them. Sendspace has an 80KB cap, Filesend has a 160KB cap.
