Anyways I'm been eyeing the Nikon D5000

LINK

I'm a noobie at DSLR cameras so do anyone think I should get it?
I mean is it worth it?
I've been watching videos review on the camera and a lot said that it's worth it just some cons but they aren't that big.
(ex. when changing to live view it has a loud shutter and so is the shutter itself. and such.. )

Yeah it might be a bit pricey but for me it's a good price I can afford.
I especially love the vari-angle lcd, that was plus for me since I've been looking at DSLR with vari-angle lcd.
I went to bestbuy to test it out but the camera has no memory card in it so I couldn't review my pictures.

So any good helpers can tell me weather it's a good idea or not?
Thanks =)

Since your new.
It might be better to get a cheaper one to see if you are really into using it // practice before
you get a higher end one as the d5000 is quite expensive. The money used on something like
the d60 or even d90 (not sure if its that much cheaper) could be used to buy lenses which
make more difference in my opinion than the body.

^Ditto. Try the D90; cause if you get a D40 or D60; your gonna wanna update soon, like me lol.
++ That money you wanna use to get a D5000< I didnt even know that existed; you can buy
better lens :]

Oh cuz it just came out this year I believe.. it's new.
So are you guys saying the lens is not that good?? I only got one chance to buy a camera that's why. I would've start off with a better cam but it's only a one chance thing cuz My boyfriend would totally get fire up about me getting another one.

If you think you can get good use out of it and you can afford it, why not?
That camera like the T1i from Canon is the newest and is full of fun features that many of us wish we could get but can't afford. If you think you can get good use out of it then that's great. A lot of us will say it might be better to get a lower end one first because a lot of people are unsure about their dedication towards this very expensive hobby. That way you would spend less initially and when you find something you like (say closeups) you can buy a macro with the money you didn't spend initially.

As for the lens, I don't know very much about Nikon but I can tell you that normally the kit lens is a basic lens that covers the focal range most people will want. Just checked amazon, its a 18-55 lens with VR (image stablizer) so it would cover most of your needs and I have read that they are generally better than the canon kit though I am not sure about that.
The average user can be content with that, but some will want to upgrade and buy a lens with higher grade glass which could produce sharper, more defined pictures. Others would want to buy a lens with a different focal range, say 55-200mm lens so you can get a lot more zoom or you can go the opposite direction and buy a macro so you can do nice closeups.

Often times they say if the lens is good, it doesn't matter what kind of body the photographer has. In the end it will look good. The newer cameras just make it a bit easier to get a nice shot. (live view, expanded ISO range so you can take shots with lower chance of blurring, less noisy, faster write to card speeds, larger buffer, more focusing points, higher resolution to help you crop, etc)

thanks that was good help

I'm not buying it for photography. though I'll make a hobby out of it but not a serious one.. I just want a dslr came that's all.
And that's what I was thinking too.. about the body and lens.. The lens are changeable so i guess it's possible just to buy better lens in the future .. right?

yes, the lenses are interchangeable, but they can get VERY expensive... (There are lenses that costs thousands... some I've seen up to $180,000!)

I hope you want to buy a DSLR because you want to get into photography because there's no point in buying a DSLR if you're going to treat it like a P&S and only keep it on auto. A normal compact p&s will probably be better for your normal picture taking needs like sel-ca's and taking random pictures with friends. A DSLR is bulky and not that easy to take everywhere. Also, it's more sensative to drops, water, dust, etc... so if you plan on purchasing one, you'll need to take care of it as well.

Believe it or not, if you don't know what you're doing or you don't spend the time to learn HOW to use it, the quality of the pictures could be WORSE than a compact p&s. Since there's so many options and features packed into the DSLR, there's tons of ways to screw up the photo. For example: blurred shots in low light situations. If you know what's you're doing, you'll get a photo that you just CAN'T get from a normal p&s, but if you don't know... you'll be so frustrated as to why all your shots are incredibly blurry.

In my opinion, the reason you want the D5000, which is " I just want a dslr came that's all" is probably not a good one. I'm not telling you not to purchase it, but I can already tell that you'll probably have buyers remorse unless you decide to invest lots of time learning about photography.

Now... with that said...

I'm not all too familar with the Nikon D5000 because I'm a Canon user, but I heard it's direct consumer grade DSLR competition to Canon's EOS T1i, which is getting some very good reviews.
Here's an extensive review from dpreview, which is a great review site for cameras

Finally glad to see Nikon's consumer grade DSLRS come with autofocusing within the body. As a canon user, I was absolutely baffled as to why they released the D40 & D60 without the ability to autofocus on some of their own Nikon lenses!

From what I can tell, it actually doesn't have that auto focus motor thing on the mount. I guess it isn't super important unless you want like... prime lenses

Are you serious? Only AF-S lenses again?
Why does Nikon do that?!

That's why I love canon smile.gif
(except I wish hoods came with all lenses... haha)

^whao! the d3 looks like a giant! lol
but does ur gf like it?? Yeah i take alot of sel-ca.. not only me but with other people and if I buy it i'll have the ability to take it with other people while holding it upward and see what i'm doing.

Thanks Hyuni for your suggestion..
but again I'm not going to treat it like crap.. lol
Yes I'm going to take goooood care of this camera and learn how to use it! I'm really into taking pictures and i also have a small regular digi-cam so if I don't want to carry that big old camera around I can just carry my digi... i would like this camera though, cuz when I travel I can take good pictures.
Yeah the reason i said i wanted a dslr cuz I always really wanted one and learn how to use it.
I just want to know if the camera is really worth it due to the picture/video quality, lens, body.. etc.

before going into any expensive camera stuff, like buying your dslr for the first time, i would suggest knowing stuff about aperture, iso, shutter speed, etc. it's good to buy just a good camera, like the one you have, is good for a beginner. just make sure you get alot of experience before investing in diff. lenses, etc.

I'm getting that one!

I have played with a d60 for a few weeks (wasn't mine, borrowed from a photographer friend) and practiced learning about manual settings. (If you have a powershot canon camera they have manual settings too)

I just got into photography at the start of this year when I started making friends with lots of photographers. Though I'm probably just doing photography as a hobby. Also I like to take self portraits (Used to have a canon camera with a flip screen) so I'm really excited about getting this camera.

Now I just need to save up for lenses... *sigh* sad.gif

I wouldn't suggest getting one since you're new to it, like others have suggested it's better to learn with a cheaper and lower Nikon such as the D60 which is significantly cheaper but still considered a semi-professional DSLR and not bad quality wise at all. The D5000 is a good purchase if you're considering to take a lot of video footage, since its the first HD DSLR i think. Anyway you still get really great photos from other ones like the D90 which might be worth looking into since that's quite similar minus the video footage. But at the end of the day lens' are what can improve the photos a lot, some enhance the quality and some allow you to take crisp close ups (perhaps a 200/300m). Although if money isn't a issue theres nothing stopping you from getting the D5000 and i'm sure it'll be a lot of fun to play around with so enjoy whichever one you get biggrin.gif
