Okay. I'm turning 21 this year & I just graduated with a Degree from College. It's a common thing for Filipinos to graduate Uni/College in this age, mind you.

Graduation was fun, but now that we are in the 'real word' and jobs don't come easy anymore. It can be a bummer Are you guys feeling the itch? It's been three months after my graduation and life just sucks not being able to do anything. I want to get a job, but I can't because I will be reviewing to get my license. In order for me to work 'professionally' under my degree.

I'm currently with my family here in London, as I am waiting for the exams. But as I stay here, I realized that I am being a bum under my parents. Dang, I'm 20. Other kids are working part time and here I am still going to me mum asking for my fare, food..etc.

Anyone having the same itch as me?

People would call this as a great vacation for me to rest, but I just can't help but be guilty of me having a degree yet still jobless.

Feel free to share. wink.gif

My bf graduated a year ago this month and still hasn't found any work. It's wearing him pretty thin. sad.gif I know he's applying for some jobs but he doesn't have a lot of experience and it's kicking him in the butt right now. I just try to stay supportive. I know it's a rough time for him right now and he'll pull through it and end up hating his job and hating going to work just like the rest of us one day. tongue.gif

I graduated in August last year and have been unemployed since then (other than working for my parents which ain't really a job). It fustrated me loads that I applied for so many positions but I failed on lack of experience which is annoying because that is what I need lol mixed in with the fact that no one is hiring!!

And I know how you feel about feeling guilty but I really regret going to Uni (apart from all the great friends I made), my younger bro who skipped going to Uni and went straight on an accounting apprenticeship is doing better than me and totally sticks it in my face that he is doing better than me a uni graduate!

But patience is a virtue cos I finally start a proper job on Monday after over 10 months being unemnployed! So don't worry too much just take some time off after all that studying like travel for a bit and then get on the job hunt

oh I know how you feel. I graduated this past december and have been searching high and low for jobs. I am getting pretty desperate but I just try to stay as optimistic as possible and keep searching, keep applying, and brushing up my resume. But I really need a job soon. I know a lot of people who say they would love to stay home and do nothing like I am right now but I am seriously one of those people who need to be up and doing something. I honestly don't care if I get a job that pays me less than I should be getting b/c so long as i like it enough and i keep busy and have some cash flow I will be content for now

I haven't graduate yet but at the end of every year, we have quite a bit of representatives visiting our Health & Science department to recruit us.

yeah, i'm in that boat right now... no one wants to hire an inexperienced person when they can get someone with more experience. Competition is a lot higher and big companies don't take as many graduates.

I did a Master research degree right after I finished my bachelor degrees. Not a wise decision because now I have little experience working in the 'real world' :/.

I try to stay positive tho...hopefully I will find something soon. I'd rather be busy than not doing anything :/

My sister is going through this now. She also did her Masters right after her Bachelors and now, everyone keeps telling her she's overqualified for the entry level positions but she doesn't have enough experience for the Masters level jobs.

well i can't really say much because things were definitely different at the time that I was a fresh grad (just a few years ago). yea i was stuck at home doing nothing for 4 months (plus 6 more months from my last 2 semesters having a very light load). and i am this kind of person who hates long vacations. at the 1st week mark, i already wanted a job. what makes the big difference now i think is the global recession. this is no joke - one reason i can't move out of where i am right now.

however, i believe that if you make your way to getting your professional license, you'll definitely have that edge. study hard for the license, then after that, concentrate your time and efforts in looking for potential companies. don't feel guilty of being jobless - i am very sure your family and friends (and yourself of course) can understand that, as long as you know in yourself what direction you are taking.

mind you, cherish this vacation you're having now. when you get a job, i assure you, it's quite hard to get a long vacation - and you'll be needing one for sure. smile.gif

i hope this helps.

you know what, i somewhat agree to you. i spent 5 years in college, and now in my work i can't apply anything that i have learned in college at work.

but it's still hard to quit college ya know. if you can get a company to hire you with degree-less credentials, lucky you. good luck in that bro!

For the profession I want to go in, they recruit for new hires in the fall. I was actually supposed to graduate this spring, but since I couldn't get a position with fall recruiting last year my family suggested I stay in school another quarter and recruit again when they come around. I've been looking for small part time jobs to get me more experience in the mean time, but I've had no luck and anything else out there requires experience I don't have. I try to be more competitive, but it sucks when the system works against you. I applied for an internship back in feb, and when I didn't get it, I finally just asked my interviewer if there was something I needed to improve on since I've been having such bad luck and he said honestly it was the economy and to apply again in the fall. I dunno if he was pulling my leg or whatever, but yea. Some of my friends do have jobs lined up for when they graduate and I'm feeling so left behind. My roommate also has to move out, so now I have to pay rent by myself, so now I'm even more hard up for a job sad.gif

im employed....however it gets frustrating when my job is not even related with my major..with the recession, it doesn't help when you are competing entry level jobs with someone who has way more experience and willing to work..

i am angry of myself because i can’t move forward unless i hide my feelings
i just realized that when i meet you i can’t just close and throw my heart away

i feel for you. these are really hard times. the bad news is no matter how competitive you can get, when the system has made up its mind to go against you, you can't do anything about it but to get by it.

probably get a job.

start your own business is a better solution, since unemployment rate is very high right now.

My friend who has a business degree, was laid off a few months ago.
He starts taking classes again, to be a doctor.
He's still active looking for a job though.

Wow.. I would have actually graduated around this time had I gone to college either straight out of high school or even after taking a year or 2 break.. I didn't end up attending and instead decided to work full time. I never realized how hard it would be to get work without experience. How do they expect anyone to get experience if they won't hire anyone without experience? sleep.gif I basically spent all my time from 2005 to the present working at various places and have settled myself down by working at a phone card distribution company doing the activations, customer service, and accounting stuff. I want to go back to school but now i'm wondering is it a good time to go back to school?

My bf tells me that when the economy picks back up, there will be a lot of over qualified people so even with having work experience, it would be hard for me to get a job without a degree... I don't know how much longer this company will be up and running but I think if this company goes down, i'll go back to school.
Some say i'm a genius, others say i'm crazy
but they all say i'm a little on the weird side

I know how you feel. I had a job when I graduated but it was a temporary job. I was then jobless for like three months. I moved all the way across my country for a job that fired me 3 months later. So now I am once again jobless, and have been for three months. It is really awful and in the US economy, there is no end in sight. Millions of people are looking for jobs. I apply for things all the time and never hear a thing back. It is getting really depressing. dry.gif

don't be a fool, stay in school

you might as well finish it off if you're already started it, otherwise you've just wasted a whole bunch of time and money

if you wanted to work in the first place then you should have just done that instead of start college
