You have to do that stuff to be in NHS? All I did was be me, you know just do things like your supposed to. Listen to your teachers and stuff like that and for my school our sponsor had on our sheets we had to have a 90 average. I think you would be good if you are well liked by the majority of your teachers.

Specific requirements for getting accepted into NHS are different for every individual school. You'd have to find out from your school's NHS if they have any specific requirements...

As far as my school goes, it was pretty much a shoo-in if you had 1-3 leadership(s), 1-3 volunteering commitments (no requirement on hours), straight A's and allowing only 1 B. Leadership really technically doesn't have to be anything official, such as an officer post in a club. It can just be something like tutoring kids. As long as you are guiding somebody or some group of people, it is "leadership".

432521: In the case of my school, being well liked by the teachers really didn't help or matter. The judging board for our NHS was only 5 teachers, and only 1 being a teacher that has me or have had me. And another girl I knew, who is definitely well liked by teachers, was deferred and almost not accepted to NHS because of some ridiculous issue. But that was fixed after she wrote an appeal. happy.gif Actually, I almost didn't get into NHS myself because of my numerous latenesses to school... but I got in anyways because I wrote an appeal lol.

I remember I was worrying about this a few years ago. I'm surprised I got in since the only leadership I got was an assistant tutor at a math program.

How about being on the executive board in a club?

Hm, I actually forgot what I did. I just remember having to do an essay and stuff. Leadership, etc.
If you really want leadership positions, the best choice would probably be student council, or some position (secretary, treasurer, president, etc) in an active club.

This year, I simply did my hours through club activities, and helping out at like a sport event at my school.
I'm going to be volunteering a lot in the hospital for the beginning of summer a lot, because the after like less than a month, I'm going to Taiwan for the remainder of the summer.

wow that's some crazy requirements to be in NHS for your school.
My school only requires a 3.5+ GPA and an essay.

as for leadership, I would just run for officer in a club.
or if you play a sport, go for captain.
musical fun...♥

but i don't think its enough to meet the standards ㅠㅠ
do u think there are any leadership oppourtunities outside of school?

^ wow, the NHS at your school is a lot more strict than the one at mine.
pretty much anyone can get into it at my school, haha.

hmm...outside of school, what about church things?
or if you attend something like korean school, etc.
you could be a counselor, teacher, etc.

I was in girl scouts so I was a counselor for 12 year olds one summer in camp. I'm pretty sure you can get camp counseling jobs even without being in any organization though. At least the camp I went to was in desperate need of 16+ counselors.

Also, though? I did this the summer after my junior year. I didn't bother with NHS because I didn't like the way it was run [it felt too much like whoring myself out for requirements, since my school had basically the same requirement as yours], and as far as I know, being in NHS doesn't help your college app much because basically the top 5 or 10% of every school is in it and the best college only takes the top 1%, if even.
Personally, it worked out for me because I got into the colleges I wanted (several Ivies and CMU), but what I'm trying to say is think about how important NHS actually is compared to your other activities and stuff and decide if it's even worth the effort.

Summer camp would be a good idea.

At my school student council is the elevator to NHS. =]

Also, try starting a "Teen Council" at your local library. They love stuff like that and it's not hard to do.

you could do mentoring; that would be done during the schoolyear, and tell them if you can't make it to the orientation so you'd still be able to keep your mentees.
I love watching KevJumba's videos. xD

for our school.

SAT of math & reading combined 1000+ or ACT score 22+
2 or more AP classes
Minimal to No cuts, absences, lateness
No suspensions

i got kicked out of mine, and i was the president. 1 week before the ceremony too sleep.gif
the advisor (who was also my teacher) has issues with me. she relies on me like i'm the ONLY person in NHS.
i got fed up, we argued, she outted me. i'm fine.

Sounds pretty tough.
For my school, all we had to do was list all of our activities (past and present) related to school and unrelated to school, on a paper. We had to hand that in. Each thing equaled a certain number of points. Add the points to your GPA (100 scale) and if you made up to a certain number of points, you got in. Some people didn't even have the chance to try because their average was too low.

I got in with a 95 average and a bunch of activities, while my friend got in with a 99 (could be higher) average and jazz band. =_=

(: be involved with clubs.
you don't always need to start clubs to be a leader in it.
you can always run for officer positions or even executive board positions
get involved with ptsa or even class council
likee people mentioned before, try tutoring or mentoring. (:
good luck~~
