Yo folks, I need help! I currently have been using my mom's hand-me-down for four years. It is a 1998 Forest Green Suzuki Grand Vitara. It was pretty comfortable driving around (no accidents yet happy.gif) and it still runs pretty well...but my father's car is about to see death and so he wants to take that car back for now, leaving me to finally buy my own car. Other pros I had with the Vitara was although it was not low to the ground it was compact and easy to park. The only real problem I had with the car was the color...

I started looking for a car and soon realized I had no idea what to look for. As I am not that familiar with cars...I am not that picky I would say...just want something that looks relatively nice...more on the simple side and easy to get around. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Price range: I would really hope to spend around $15,000-$20,000...I am not rich.
New or used: Preferably new...
Manual or automatic: Auto
Years of driving: 4
Cars currently suggesting: Nothing big like a Hummer...no truck...open to anything else
Needs and other info (do you need passenger room, cargo space, AWD, etc): covered mostly in the above. Do want a backseat...usually travel in four or fives. But this is a car to just get around, not anything special.

Hopefully my price range and what I want mix...but open to anything! More emphasis on the price...

Thanks!

i guess you like compact SUVs

you should look into the hyundai tucson, kia sportage, toyota rav4, or honda crv..theres also the ford escape, chevy equinox, saturn vue, if you are considering an american car

i drive the 2nd gen CRV..it feels sluggish but it gets me around..

i'd want the new kia sorento, i love the design!

it'll be a bitt over your price range though and a big bigger than the grand vitara you're use to

Mazda 3. I've heard REALLY good things about them with overall quality, and they have storage capacity similar to the compact SUV's out there.

Just get a Civic, Corolla, or Camry like everyone lol. But really, the newer Civics and Carollas looks nice in my eyes with good gas mileage.

At your price range there are heaps of choice in the used car market, just test drive as many as you can that you might be interested in.

If you are buying from a private seller make sure you have a friend or familly who knows about cars and look for any signs of previous damage due to accident.

The new box cars Kia Soul and Nissan Cube are definitely in your budget, but that's of course if you don't mind the look. They have pretty nice features for the price although, for me, box cars are eh. Just thought I would mention these.
