I massage my friends and my family all the time and they enjoy it. But when my family massages me, I cringe and I even screamed today when my mom was massaging me cause she was helping me with my cough. My body always feels tense and I personally hate when people give me massages. I love giving them and I sometimes get envious that everyone says they love them but when people massage me, it always hurts. Is there a reason why? Is it healthy? How come I feel so out of it? and alot of my friends tell me I'm crazy cause it hurts when I get a massage. O.O

Massages can hurt sometimes, and the pain is actually quite normal at times. If you are naturally tense (tight muscles, lots of knots), you will obviously experience pain during massages. Also, if your masseuse is focusing on pressure points, those places usually hurt.

For me, my neck and shoulders are always extremely tense and tight. Massages there are pretty painful sometimes, but I take the pain and just enjoy it. I just imagine the stiffness and tension being pressed and rubbed away.

Also given that you are sick, the pressure point areas that correlate with your illness will HURT LIKE EFF.

I personally LOVE massages. I take the pain too because after the pain, my body feels a lot more loose and I can really feel my blood circulating.

when I'm really tense, I love the pain, which I guess isn't considered a pain anymore. huh.gif

I can't handle massages, either. My back and neck are too sensitive, so the pressure gets to be too much.

I can't handle massages because I am extremely ticklish. I'd probably kick the person in their face. Rofl. It's possible that it's supposed to hurt because your muscles are so tense or they may be doing it wrong or too hard.
Some say i'm a genius, others say i'm crazy
but they all say i'm a little on the weird side

and it doesn't tickle? it just hurts?
i think it's because your body is already so tense
massages usually are suppose to make them not so tension and relaxed,
but i just really think you should bare through a 10 minute massage,
cause your body might just be use to the tension of your muscles.
I mean it takes a while to get use to it.
so just bare through one?

I remember I was watching this show ("You Are What You Eat" on BBC) and this nutritionist was rubbing this persons abdominal area and they said it was hurting a lot and the lady said she was barely touching them, which means that they have a problem with their liver due to poor diet. I'm not saying that this is what's happening to you, but it is a possibility. There's also the chance that your family is just massaging you too hard mellow.gif

There are many types of massage ~ for the ones that hurt it mainly could be your experiencing a strong form. The ticklish ones it would mean a soft form. ( note this is a very simplified dumbed down description ) Either way just be aware that massage styles vary and everyone has their own taste for what constitutes a good massage. Though sports therapy massage and deep tissue massages can initially or be quite painful the relaxation and feeling afterwards can be miraculous.
