When I went to visit the university I'm going to, I asked some of my student hosts about it and they said "15 plus friends."
So yeah. I spent the last year working my ass off to get to my goal weight. My friends and I are discussing losing 15 pounds before we go so when we gain weight, it won't be that bad. ^^;

It's not true. I lost 10 pounds my first year. It was because I wasn't
used to all of the American food that they had and it wasn't that
appetizing anyway. Just watch what you eat.

I might have gained 10 lbs, but i think that was starting from the summer. I didn't live on campus, so i didn't have a kitchen [our dorms are apt styled] where i could just keep some healthy snacks and food. It was easier to just buy food at school.

The food court at school didn't have a lot of healthy options, though they're adding more now. Plus, you get kind of bored with the small amount of choices. And it's hard to say no to fatty foods when you're starving and it's lunch time.

It's so so true. Painfully true.
I gained weight as well, this year. Not 15 lbs, probably like, 8 or 9. But still.

Oh. But it's not true for EVERYONE. My nephew lost like, 30-40 lbs when he moved out of his mom's house! So it kind of depends on the lifestyle you had, and the lifestyle you adapt.

it depends on the person. i know a lot of people who gained weight but one of my friends lost 60 pounds over the past year and i've lost 13 pounds myself. some people don't know how to eat healthy now that they're living on their own or they get bogged down with homework and don't workout and end up gaining weight. :[

Myth.
Everyone is different. The people that are saying Freshman 15 is true are just part of the majority that don't monitor what they eat and exercise.

It's true in the sense that it happens to many people. It's not like if you goto college, it's 100% sure that you will gain 15lb, lol. It depends on the person as you said. But a lot of people I have encountered have suffered from Freshman 15. They end up losing most of it when they go back home. I lost 7 lb quickly once I moved back home.

I gained 5lbs in my first semester, which is a big deal to me since it's really hard for me to gain weight. I lost it all by second semester, though ._.
probably because I pigged out in the first semester whenever I got stressed (which was very often)

It is very true. I gained like 10lbs when I started college. I moved out of state so I was very lonely without my high school friends and my family. I used to stay in my dorm room and eat and watch lots of movies when I wasn't at school. Also, I did a lot of snacking when I was studying. After the first year I started eating healthier and surprisingly I lost the ten pounds and then some. smile.gif

But yeah, I've noticed a lot of my hs friends got dramatically bigger. I can say for sure that one of my friends gained like 30-40lbs during her freshman year.

I think it depends. My sister is the opposite and probably me too. I can't eat American food everyday. So i'll probably starve,

It really does depend on your lifestyle. I walk just about EVERYWHERE at school, I've lost some weight, but surely have gained it back with muscle weight. Having food available basically whenever you want is very tempting, but you learn how to control yourself/portions. So it all depends.
