I have delt with anxiety for the past few months but this is the first time something like this has been happening. My heart will suddenly feel like it slows .. and then pauses for a split second. then I feel like this electrical sensation and it thumps harder. This also happens a lot when I've been trying to sleep the past couple days. The second I doze off, my heart feels like it stops and then thumps again and it makes me wide awake. Happens every single time I start to doze off. I'm getting scared to sleep now, and am thinking if I should go to the doctor to check my heart. Even though I was there like last week for trouble breathing and he said it was anxiety. Arrggg does anyone else have this happen to them? Please share.. I'm scared.

EDIT: going to the doctor today. I will update you guys on what they say!
EDIT 2: So I went to the doctor and he said it probably is nothing be worried about, unless I have a racing heart or feel dizzy and faint. they did an EKG and it was normal. He said he will refer me to a cardiologist though just in case if I want. Do you think I should see a cardiologist?

I have the same thing (especially when I'm feeling anxious or worried). I went to the doctor for it, and they found it to be heart palpitations. The only advice they gave me is to try not to stress so much, but it's easier said than done.

However, each person is different, so I'd suggest you see a doctor. My brother had the same thing as well, and the doctor found his to be caused by an enlarged aorta.

It's normal for your heart to skip a beat occasionally, but it seems like your situation is more serious. It's true that stress may exacerbate the problem but that doesn't mean it is the cause of the problem.

Most novice doctors are notorious of overlooking "minor" problems. They will tell you to simply "relax" or lower your stress, but if the problem persists I would most definitely get a second opinion.

I suggest seeing a doctor about it..if thats something new and its scaring you to the point that your scared to sleep..it needs to be adressed by a professional.

From what you have described, it sounds like bradyarrhythmia. Usually, it's not serious unless your cardiac output is reduced. You say you feel a tingly sensation when your heart stops? I think it's your backup pacemaker working because your SA node didn't fire.

I may be wrong and it may be a blockage in flow, ischemia. I'm not a doctor, so I can't say these things for sure.

but yea, see a doctor.

actually this happens to me too.. but for me its obvious that its because i am a. stressed all the time, b. unhealthy, and c. eh.. idk haha.. but its called a heart palpitation.... it happens when you undergo too much anxiety/ stress or for many other different reasons.. what you can do to help re duce it.. is relieve stress, exercise.. etc... but if it just started happening or if it doesnt happen too often then i wouldnt worry bout it too much.. but thats just me.. tongue.gif anywho... hope you figure out what it was..

btw.. just an extra: when it happens to me it usually goes for at least 2 seconds before it starts beating like normal again.. which, i truly should see a doctor.. but im too damn poor and lazy.. but yeah.. it feels kinda like a mini heart attack?? idk if i could call it that.. since ive never had one before..

My boyfriend actually makes fun of my heart for this; whenever he puts his head against it, he mimicks my heart beat and its ALWAYS uneven :/
I'm anxious by nature but I only really noticed this happening after I stopped exercising, smoked and smoked marijuana.

Isn't that a heart murmur? blink.gif
I'm not positively sure,
but see a doctor, just in case smile.gif

that is more like palpitations, we feel it as if our heart stops, then double thumps as if to make up for it... but when we take our pulse, it is just a double beat smile.gif

see the doctor of course, i had that a LOT before, and it is when I am very tried, stressed, anxiety (due to exams) and pressure... i went to a cardiologist, did more than 1 ecg... did all kinds of tests, and they said it was normal part of growing up, also because i grew a lot in that year... 10cms, and probably it is just over-working itself as well...

hopefully all is well smile.gif

This started happening to me a few months ago.. during a time of stress, too. It hasn't been happening lately though, as I've been much more relaxed these days. But when it first happened, I thought I was just feeling/imagining things. But it kept happening every other day and I got worried, so I went to the doctor. She told me it was from stress and anxiety.. and that's about it..

You might want to see a doctor about your stress though.
