My BF's '95 Acura Integra has been acting up, and recently (just now) it broke down on the highway after leaving my house.. I feel HORRIBLE. He has no idea to why his car is acting so odd. Can you guys please please help us??

His car use to be really smooth although it's a stick and within this week is been very shakey. Usually it just happened on a cold start, but then slowly like with each passing day it became worse and worse. Like when you listen to the exhaust and feel the car movment it stutters on gears sometimes. I don't know how to explain it.

Please give some ideas sad.gif Desperate need of help.

Thanks so much!!! =((

check if theres a broken engine mount...have you or your bf been ripping burn outs much? or there might be a cracked piston..then you have to rip up the engine...=S good luck with it...

Vibrations could be because of the motor mounts. Has the car ever had an engine swap? If so then it probably is the motor mounts. I don't know much about transmissions so your on your own with that.

-Edit Could be the clutch too.

I doubt it's an engine mount. For a mount to cause a car to completely break down on the highway, it's unlikely. Unless that it's been so abused within the past week that the engine mount completely broke off the car, causing one side to drop and hit the ground.

It could honestly be several different things but without more detailed information, it's hard to give an accurate diagnosis. Did the car feel significantly slower as it progressed?

I can take a stab at two things here:

Idle Air Valve/Motor (IAC) is dirty/clogged. <- This is most likely.
Fuel pump failing.

If your BF is handy in DIY repair or maintanance on the car, have him take a look into the Idle Air Valve/Motor and clean it out with carb cleaner. Its practically a no cost solution (assuming you have the carb cleaner spray).

Thanks guys. I'm telling my BF all of the possibilities, but then he told he thinks it might be his timing belt? Like it snapped or something. But were not too sure about that either. So I'm going to go ahead and give you guys as much details as possible.

He has 140K miles (don't know if tha has anything to do with it), The car will not start up at all. His car hasn't stall it just has trouble pulling? Thats the best way i could explain it, like when he shifts gears it seems like the car is trying to pull and it just keeps stuttering, until you shift to a higher gears. His car hasn't gotten an engine swap before either. And unfortunately, I do not live by the bay area. =( I live in Colorado.

Thnaks so much,
I really appreciate everyone taking the time to try and help. ^^

if his timing belt snapped you would be able to see it from the engine bay .... and he wouldn't be able to drive his car ... sounds like a fuel delivery problem, i would change the plugs, caps and rotors first and see if they problem is still there, try dumping those fuel cleaner in the tank to see if that helps any. could be fuel filter. if he never changed that on the car before..
