I'll be going to college next year, so I was just wondering what kind of bags does college students use? Any recommendations? Pictures and reviews would be nice too!

A backpack with a built-in laptop sleeve for days when I need to carry my backpack or a lot of books. One from HS is fine, but mine was really beat up so I got a Dakine Prom in a maroon color.

A simple tote when I'm just carrying some spiral notebooks to class. Currently, I'm using a free one I got from school a lot =P.

A messenger bag. a really asian looking one lol.

But I might rethink that next year because carrying textbooks in a messenger bag is murder on my shoulder.

A backpack because I have a lot of heavy books to carry.
Sometimes I use a messenger back or tote bag when I only have one class.

It depends what class I have each day. So I go back and forth between a black jansport from high school
that i sewed stuff onto to make it a bit different on days I carry books and my laptop. For light days I use
a tote. I'm looking to get a messenger and another handbag xD

but a lot of girls these days (like me) carry totebags.

A little Jansport backpack.
I have to walk everywhere on campus so it's not practical to have a side bag or big purse.
Most people on our campus have regular bookbags.

i carry a tote bag or a medium size purse. my netbook fits in it and i don't carry any books to school so its fine
people still wear backpacks too

i carry a kipling backpack for textbooks and a medium-sized tote bag for lighter days.

I use backpacks, but lots of different kinds of backpacks -- LeSportsac, Kipling, The North Face, Jansport, etc.

Since I live on campus and pretty close to my classes, I just use a tote bag to carry a notebook/clipboard, pencil case, and water.

If I have to walk further or if I'm carrying textbooks then I will use a backpack.

I think it's good to have options depending on what you have to carry that day. But if you were only to get one bag then I would recommend you look for a nice, comfortable, sturdy backpack with lots of room for books.

When I have a lot of textbooks or whatever to carry with me for the day or my laptop, I bring a backpack.
Most common ones I see are Jansport... if you're curious about what type of brand, lols.

If I just have my notebook and my pencil bag, then a large purse o.o... with my wallet and keys in it.

the north face recon backpack. and yes, i'm a girl. i tried one of those messenger bags during my freshman/sophomore year in high school and i almost died; not to mention it was awkward trying to run with it. so i went back to a backpack. and, in my opinion, north face backpacks are super sturdy and great! i've had mine since junior year and it still looks amazing. i even got my bf hooked on the backpack because it's so amazing.
