About Me:
18
Currently own 03 G35

I finally graduated high school and my mom is willing to buy me a new car under 40k.
I'm banking on a 2009 is250. i currently own a 2003 g35, its a gas eating monster at 15mpg but i love the power it puts out.
So I'm wondering if I'll be satisfied with the amount of power the is250 will put out. =\
advise, suggestions? please & thank you.

EDIT:

parents paid for half of it..

wow u only get 15 mpg? Is that only city driving? My wrx with sti turbo and other goodies gets 19-20 mpg (mostly freeway) and I drive 80 mph on the freeway on average. I'm also from sf.

As for an is250, don't get it. You will be severely disappointed with the power. You'll most likely get smoked by any sporty sedan/coupe in the $20k-30k range. Even if you're looking at fuel economy, the is250's not gonna help much. It's a heavy car and u wouldn't see much difference in your mpg. At best you'd probably get 16 mpg, considering how you're only getting 15 mpg in your g35.

If your mom's budget is 40k, why not get an is350 instead. Or a g37 or bmw 135i or 335i

Nah I think 250 will do 20+ in city. My friend with IS350 drives in NYC and gets 14mpg, 250 usually does 4-5 mpg better

to be blunt no u will not be satisfied with the is250's output, but will like the mpg better. get an is350 u want something similar with acceptable mpg. technically more powerful, but maybe a more muted sensation. others include a 135i as suggested, which gets decent mileage for the power. and as an upcoming college student i highly suggest something with a bigger trunk.

the car weighs 3435 lbs (even worse with AWD at 3650 lbs) and based off of the OP's 15 mpg average with their G35, they'll probably do just 16-17 mpg.

if you like the sound and power of the vq35 engine, you might be disappointed in the 250..i always had a thing with long cars so i never really liked the new IS's buttttt if you like them, then i strongly suggest getting the 350 since you like the power your 03 g gives out...you should also try looking into a g37S =] but whatever you choose, an IS is still a nice car in my opinion.

OOO off topic sorry but what seat belt thingy are you using?? cause my seat belt always gives me a huge and painful rash on my neck =[

ok well let me rephrase, this depends on whether u are commuting or not and if ur gonna move to ur dorm or house with ur parents in a bigger car or are u gonna use urs. cause the g35 doesn't seem all that practical in situations that would require u to haul alot of stuff, granted these only occur a few times. i just mentioned this cause my major requires me to haul big projects and i needed a larger trunk. at any rate, just a thought. otherwise i guess im just thinking like a parent.

Can you tell me the place you're talking about? I know there used to be place at Great Wall in kent but I think they closed.

As for OP's question, if you liked your G35, then I think it's better to upgrade to G37. Otherwise, IS250 is good car too.

check out C-Class, 3-Series, or a TL? (TL's have ugly new grille, but i think they CAN look nice with an aftermarket one)

if you enjoy driving the G35, i think you may be let down a bit by the IS250!
i guess you'll just have to check it out by test driving one.

I'm thinking of trading the G35 (same color) for something else too.

i never drove a g35 so I don't know how the power is compared to the is250, plus i dunno much about cars haha, but my parents bought me the 2009 is250 few weeks ago (been my dream car since high school) and i absoutely love it! Really easy to drive and you don't have to worry about braking all the way down when you're making a big sharp turn because it has really good turning control. The only con about is that i feel like it kills alot of gas since it's an AWD, cost about 40 bucks to fill up the whole tank? Hope this helps, even though based on everyone's inputs....it seems that the power for g35 is better? lol

Actually , back when I had a g35 coupe 2006 model , I was also looking at the IS250 and the power was definately not that impressive (but thats obviously because of the smaller engine compared to the g35) when I test drove it. I admit though , the interior was definately better looking then the g35 I owned .

did u try lowering the shoulder bracket? When I step into a car and the bracket's all the way up it'll just rest right on my neck. But if I lower it, it rests on my shoulder instead.
