A few years ago I got into working for non-profit orgs and right around the same time gas prices got out of control. I was driving a '04 xterra and at 18mi/gallon and a 19 gallon tank I was shelling out big time and decided to find her a new forever home.

Since then I've been relying on public trans which is fine bec it suits my lifestyle (vegan hippy, working for an environmental conservation agency etc,) but I'm now back in the market for Mommy's Litte Scoot About.

Problem is, I'm RIDICULOUSLY picky. I don't even want a nice car or an expensive car. I'm looking for used and slightly abused. However, I can't find the models I want ANYWHERE. Any tips for searching online for the rarer finds?

I've been looking for the following (any of which will do really if I can find a good price in my area, MD/VA/DC):
  • suzuki x-90
  • suzukia aerio (hatchback)
  • 1957 MTG
  • some sort of buick wagon (like a '86 woodgrained)
  • vw vanagon or vw bus

Stuff like that. sad.gif Can. Not. Find. *sob*

Try craigslist.com. Check it periodically.

how about ebay? just make sure you are able to test drive it before you buy it.

check local news papers, car auctions, autotrader.com, cars.com, vehix.com

good luck.

I second Craigslist. I've seen VW Vans and a few old Toyota SUV's on my local listings that have been converted to run on WVO. They're slightly more expensive (WVO kit alone is about $1000-1500), but REALLY environmentally friendly.

It wouldn't hurt but it'd be no fun. sad.gif

Craigslist is looking ok. I've only found one car for each and I'd admittedly like to have more options. I've never much used craigslist before, I always felt it had a bad rep.

its actually a pretty good site but just remember that people are selling their things for a reason whether it be a broken down engine to simply wanting some money for a new car. just make sure to check everything out on the cars youre interested in

you can also check out car forums for a specific car you want. someone on there might post it in the forum to sell it so.. just google like vw bus forums and see what you find.

I second going to the car specific forums.

Craigslist is great. Looking there is a good idea, but posting an ad might also work.
