Hey girls, I'm trying to get ready for the transition to college life and I just have some questions about dorm life.

As much as I hate sharing bathrooms with 20 other girls.. I can do nothing about it dry.gif . I just want to ask how do you girls go to the bathrooms to shower? Do you wear bathrobes or do you bring your clothes and toiletries stuff there? I'm not really a bathrobe person so would it be weird if I carry a bag in there with all my stuff?

i was nervous about this too but honestly, it's not that bad. there's rarely ever a time where everyone will be out in the hallway, seeing you walk in a towel/robe/whatever to the bathroom haha. anyway, most girls just walked to the bathroom in their towel/robe. it's too much of a hassle to go to the bathroom fully clothed and then undress there, since there's no shelves or anything to put all your clothes (usually just one hook next to your shower stall). everyone uses a shower tote (plastic or fabric) to bring their toiletries. you can find them at places like target, wal-mart, etc. especially when the school year's about to start.

Alright.. maybe I should try the robe LOL.

Okay this might seem like an awkward question but what do you do when you guys have your period? Do you bring your sanitary things in the stall with you?

I lived in a co-ed residence and in our showers we had benches to put our stuff on.
So I did bring my clothes and towel and toiletries with me when I showered.
Some girls would just go to the shower in just a towel or a robe.
I guess it depends on how comfortable you are.
My room was "far" from the bathroom and my floor was pretty social so it's not surprising to see ppl just chilling and hanging out in the halls. I also don't have a towel that is long enough or a bathrobe so I guess I had no choice but to go fully clothed. happy.gif

And as for your period, of course you would bring your sanitary items into the toilet stall with you? They should be right next to the shower stalls anyway...unless I am misinterpretating your question? huh.gif

I was scared at first too but you'll get used to it.
I normally just wear my bathrobe to the bathroom from my dorm room and I just go back to my room after I showered to change.
lol I can't change in the bathroom it just too cramped!

I change into my robe in my room and go to the shower.
When I have my period, I usually go to the toilet, put a new pad on new undies and then put that in my robe pocket. After I'm done showering, I dry myself and just put the underwear on, put the robe on, and go back to my room. I can change into a tampon later if I want to.

i wore a towel to the shower when i lived in the dorms.
i had a basket of toiletries that i brought with me. you get used to it eventually.
and yesssss, wear flip flops unless you want to be at risk of getting really sick.

You get used to it. I walked to the bathroom in a bath robe, but it wasn't that much of a walk since I my room was right next to it.
Most of the girls on our floor simply walked in their towels.

I also had a basket that had all my shampoo and soap and stuff.

And it's not weird if you bring a change of clothes. One of my friends did that every time she went. (She said she would change back into her pajamas, but just brought new underwear.)

I also didn't really feel comfortable walking around in a towel, so I did go to the showers fully clothed. I would change into my "shower clothes" a tank or t-shirt and shorts, easy to take off when in the stall and not likely to get wet from the water. I just draped my clothes & towel on the door of the stall and took off and put my clothes back on after showering while in the stall.

When I'm on my period, I would just stick the pad onto my new underwear in the toilet stall before showering and take it with my into the stall like normal.

The most important thing: don't forget your shower flip flops!

Sharing a common bathroom wasn't too bad. You'll get used to it really fast. The janitors cleaned it every day and I never ran into a problem with not having a sink/toilet/shower available when I needed it. Come to think of it, I actually kind of missed the res hall bathrooms ... just a little ... =P

Thanks guys, this made me feel so much better, seriously.. lmao.
I was just a bit nervous and iffy thinking how gross it might be when I'm on my period and in a public bathroom :X

Thanks again!

^awww, I can imagine! all that blood on the floor... blink.gif but what do dorm showers look like, on average? Does everybody have their own individual "stall" but all the water drains down a single drain in the middle of the room or something? Can anyone see your body when you shower? ><

Well, when I used communal showers in dorms (now I live on an on-campus apartment), they were all divided into separate "cubicles" with a tile wall, and the entrance was covered with a shower curtain. I'm pretty sure it won't be like a military bathroom where they can see your nekkid bod... but who knows.

I used a bathrobe and I had a caddy to carry my stuff. I seriously don't think anyone's going to really care. I rarely ran into people as well - we all have different schedules.

mine was a co-ed floor. definitely use flip flops. girls do have periods, people probably pee in the showers, and who knows?...boys probably relieve themselves in the shower. >.< i used to wear a towel. there are lockers in the bathroom, so you dont have to carry your shower caddy from your room to the bathroom. it wasnt that bad. a cleaning lady cleaned every day. i just hated the toilets.

I haven't actually started college, but when I was overseas we had to stay in a college dorm for like months. Uhm there, pretty much same scenario.
I just brought everything I needed in like a big bag, clothes, etc. I would take a shower, dry off & change my clothes in the shower (they had like places to put your soap, etc - a lot of shelves, I put my clean clothes on it and it never got wet ^___^).
Uhhh the whole period thing, you could bring it with you. I mean, it's all girls I don't think other girls will get icked out LOL.

i guess it depends on the dorm.. the first one i stayed in each floor was coed but boys down one hall girls down the other.. my room was next to the bathroom so it wasnt a long walk or anything.. but i just showered like i normally do.. with a towel and my toweltries and a towel for my hair.. not everyone showers at once.. and you can shower whenever too.. there are stalls so no need to worry bout seeing others naked.. at first i always brought my clothes with me so i could wear it right away but after a while it got to be a hassle..but remember your flipflops .. it can get gross in there..

and about the period thing.. there should be a drain in the middle of your stall and the one next to you .. you share a drain pretty much.. i dont really look down when i shower... so it doesnt gross me out cuz i dont see it.. but just bring your pads/tampons with you..

carrie was in high school not college. and that was the gym locker .

and no you can't see other people's business. unless they jump in the shower with you.

Is it common for others to steal your belongings, like your clothing/towels/toiletries that you leave hanging around near your stall? ph34r.gif

You just go to the bathroom. It's very simple, I promise. Nobody will care, because why would they bother to concern themselves with the sound of someone else using the bathroom?

As for showering, you can wear a robe or towel, or sometimes there is an area between the shower part and the outside world where you can undress/put your clothes and towels/etc.

When I lived in dorms, people didn't steal clothing/towels/toiletries. If you leave your stuff hanging there after you leave, someone might throw it out on the floor later on, so just take it with you. I'm sure theft happens, but of all the things to steal, I imagine toiletries and used clothes are farther down on the list.

As for having your period, stop being embarrassed about having gone through puberty and just change your pad/tampon in the stall.
