So, I was in Flushing, Queens, and I made a left turn from Roosevelt Avenue onto Main Street [just in case anyone knows this place]. There was a small black and white sign that said "No Left Turn 7am - 7pm except buses," which I did not notice. So there was a cop on foot crossing the street who told me to pull over. I ended up with a traffic ticket, and the fine says "$40 Plus $50 Surcharge." So is the fine a total of $90?

I'm mad because the cop was purposely looking for people to make this illegal turn. I saw him get another person 10 minutes later. I mean, wtf NYPD has got to have better things to do

i was just looking for a place to stop so that i wouldn't need to be in the bushes

In front of my school, one cop gave out 6 tickets in one hour.
They have nothing better to do.

I think cops are REQUIRED a certain number of tix each month...
So like at the end of the month they're trying to fulfill their requirement so they start giving out more near the end of each month. kind of stupid but w/e

I'm not sure about other police organizations, but I heard the CHP gets 3% of each citation put into a retirement fund.

Let's try to stay on topic, traffic tickets are enough of a pain to deal with.

Why can't you be . . . the part of me that's missing?
Instead of leaving me for some other.

1st thing is plead not guilty and talk to the DA (District Attorney) if its and option

You could argue that the Sign is very hard to read and conditions permitting, i.e. Sun Glare, etc. etc. impeded you from seeing it may be a reasonable defense

You can also hire a Lawyer but it may cost more than the ticket itself and if this ticket does not effect your Insurance Rates in anyway i.e. as a Speeding Ticket would, you may be better off just paying it

You could also perhaps take it to Small Claims Court and argue your case but this might take more time than its worth

Good luck

just pay the ticket. its not like the cop wrongfully gave you a ticket for somthing you didnt do.

There are signs that you need to read and follow... you cant just use the, "I didnt see" or "I didnt know" excuse. that will not help you and will probably piss off the judge.

Cops are there to enforce the law. If the department wanted to pay an officer to sit there his whole shift giving traffic violations at that intersection... they can if it will help stop that certain violation

also the g can already run mid 13s stock and the hks intakes adds an estimated 10 extra hp and the exhausts add like 8 so yeah it should shove off about 1.5 to 2 sec off my times

Always contest the ticket. You've got nothing to lose.

Just to let you know, Police do have ticket quotas to make and they will tag you for just about anything. Paying $90 or missing about 20-30 minutes of school, you decide. You can put up a good enough defense saying the sign's view is obstructed and provide pictures. It's a traffic court and the judge is usually lenient. See they make it natural to believe your at fault and you don't have a chance of getting your ticket dropped. I don't how it is where you live but we have a one deferment policy here so even if you don't get it dropped, you can get it deferred.

the fine is small, dont waste time. You'll end up making trips to court and missing school(if you go to school). Get a court date and pay the fine.

Cops have quotas on how many tickets they need to get by the end of the month. My dad did a right turn on Main Street and he didn't know and some cops pulled us over but thank God we lived out of state so the cops look in the back and then said we'll let you slide this time. Hahaha, gotta love broken English smile.gif

if it's a big fine, then it's worth going to court. why pay $400 when it can be reduced to $100 or soemthing?
but if its a small fine, it's probably better to just pay it.

while going back to the border around 1am from the states to vancouver, we were going 80mph but the sign said 50? a cop pulled us over gave us a $200 ticket.
my bf forgot to pay for the ticket, now he's banned from driving in washington biggrin.gif

if you think about it i would be unfair to you if he just gave you a ticket and just left and allowed everyone else break the law and not write a ticket for them. You broke the law deal with it don't blame the police for giving you a ticket and other people tickets for breaking the law. Besides aren't officers assigned to do certain things like traffic duties and what not?
