nice 600!, are you on the gixxer forums?, i totaled my 07 600, but im planning to get a new one once i move to vegas, where do you ride?

oh duh, says chicago right there, HAHAHA, is it on tenders right now?, weather is pretty clear down here

I've been on the forums, but I haven't signed up yet. I feel like I'm too newb tongue.gif I just stalk once in a while heh
Riding season isn't completely over yet. I just went for a 2 hours joyride around the lakeshore area yesterday, but it was starting to get chilly! Even with my thick leather jacket and pads, helmet and gloves, I was starting to get cold. heh
I'm going to try to ride as much as I can before it starts to snow here... Knowing Chicago, that might be as early as next week!

2nd and last day of traning, I PASSED! :] WWOOOHOO! Yeah, i gotten better with the braking and clutch now but i did horrible on the u- turn part lol, i couldnt stay in the box.

any tips on u-turns in small areas?

thnx.

Any turns, including U turns, I think the BEST advice is to look THROUGH the turn. If you keep your eyes on where you want to go, your body will make the necessary moves to get you there.

The U-Turn in the box was pretty hard for me. I was very nervous when they had us do it, but I somehow did it perfectly. I remember doing it in 2nd gear though, just in case I get throttle happy.

I don't know how you guys are graded wherever it is you are, but I remember getting 7 errors, I believe you need to make 20ish errors to fail.

^ what bike did u use? i was using the standard ones..similar to the "hawk"...haha wow u did pretty good then, i got 10 errors.

a grl told me to keep in the friction zone while giving it a lil throttle, i tried that and well, i was jerking and unbalanced..im afraid of u-turning in the streets now T__T...and stalling lol

im probably gonna get my bike next week or later...just hope i dont stall >_>...i still feel like a total noob

i wouldnt worry about U turns... it gets easier because you learn how to control the throttle, and if it doesn't you can just circle the block once more laugh.gif and no one cares if you put your foot down.

I thought I did ok, but they never told us how many errors, just that we all passed. Driving stick helps because you understand the balance between throttle and clutch control.

I used an old ass suzuki. I remember it being only 125cc's.

Don't worry about U-Turns. Keep practicing. Honestly, I still manage to screw up my U-Turns on the streets. Sometimes I'd have to put my foot down or else I'll lay the bike down.

Have fun with your bike when you get it. Don't forget to wear your gear and of course stay safe and ride responsibly.

It's been a bad week for the Bay Area riders. Two motorcyclists hit each other head on and both were seriously injured. New rider on a brand new Ducati 848 and the rider other was on a old Norton. Ducati was riding recklessly trying to get his knees down with jeans crossed center lane around a corner and hit the Norton rider head on. He passed me recklessly prior to the accident, I made a U-turn 10 minutes up the road and coming back I saw traffic backing up , my gut told me the Ducati rider had crashed. What I'm pissed about is that he was riding with a group and the group didn't even tell him to chill.

From what I've heard, the Ducati rider is still in ICU with massive head injury and the Norton rider had a broken femur and pelvic injury and he had surgery.I hope and pray both rider will have a healthy recovery.

Later on another rider hit a deer hit on, but luckily only a sprained ankle.

Stay away from Skyline Blvd area Bay Area riders! I'm encountering more and more reckless young riders on that rode.

so, does anyone here have a ninja 250r 2009?

i just went to the dealers to negotiate and they wanted 5600 bucks for a blue one, my brother said it was too expensive. The list price was 3,999, he knocked it done to 3,600...add all the sale taxes assembly and dmv crap...it went up to 6k..we manage to lower it to 5500...wanted to pay in cash..but i heard bikes are suppose to be around 4800-5000k....so im wondering.. How much should a 250 r cost and how much did you get it for?

Was that a good deal or was i lied to?

Complete ripoff!
I wouldn't buy a new bike if it's my first bike... It's going to get laid down and scratched up for sure.
I'd suggest getting a used bike from craigslist. That's how I got mine and I couldn't be happier!

I think I've seen 2008 250r's go for about $3k - $3.5K in the Chicagoland area.

It's been proven that your learning curve greatly improves with a 250 instead of a 600 when it comes to the twisties.

don't get a new 250, they are overpriced. The demand is there, so they won't drop prices any time soon either. Look on craigslist and get an 08, should run you 3k-3.5k depending on your location for a clean one. Small scratches don't really matter if it's been dropped at a standstill it's ok really. you will notice alot of the 250s have been dropped because usually they are new riders. DONT get a 600 just because that guy told you to, no responsible rider will. Would you get a 911 for your first car ? no.. and really not even the same comparison because 600's are faster and more dangerous. I've found that most people can't be swayed from getting a 600 but if you want a 250, don't let others tell you not to. Resale value is very good on the ninja 250 and you will be able to sell it for no money loss if you don't crash it. Since you do have cash, get a used one for sure. BTW, where do you live ? Im assuming it doesn't snow in your area ? and yes. Mr. Chan is right, there's this chick who got a new gsxr600 and she basically had to skip Palomar on our group ride because she sucked.

I agree. I had more fun on my '08 250r than my friend on his '04 R6. We started riding at the same time and I left him behind on twisties. I had no trouble selling it close to what I bought it for (new) even with scuffed fairings from laying it down twice.

By the time you learn the most you can with the 250, you can still sell it for a reasonable price and then buy a 600 and beat the other n00b 600 owners on the twisties.

i completely agree with your point. not much skill needed to twist your right wrist but sport bikes are about 2 things:
[1] speed and [2] handling. too many noobs overlook how fun #2 is and how important it is to keep you alive. the quickest way to learn #2 is on a smaller bike.

my friends were told to buy a 600 for their 1st bike and they still can't ride confidently. i lean my bike with the back of my knee clamped to my seat and the rest of my body hanging off one side while they're just getting used to leaning steeper in turns. i learned more in 3 months compared to them and i'm completely glad i started with the 250. they don't feel their bike like i can feel mine.

noobs risk getting injured or dying cause they can't handle their bike. supersports (r6/r1, gsxr, cbr, zx, etc.) are harder to learn on and increase that risk. regular sport bikes like hyosungs and the new ninja 250r's look just as good, are easier to learn on, and reduce that risk. suzuki sv650 is arguably THE best beginner sport bike bigger than 250's.

uhh yeah, anyone can go straight. bikes are not about straight line speed, why are you not encouraging people to get a hayabusa ? I mean sure you may be faster in the turns on your zx6r but I will be at 180 in a busa before you know it. seriously, you're not getting anywhere with this arguement and just makes you look stupid. People with your mentality are the people who should avoid getting a bike at all costs. please, stop giving other people advice.

If your a newbie, I strongly encourage you to get a 250. What happens if you buy a 600cc? YOUR A NOOB, you can't/won't use all those power because your too scared. Why ride a bike that scares you? You will never get comfortable. And if your not scared, one wrong flick on the throttle and you might be dead. You will never ride to a 600cc to it's potential unless you like breaking the law and put yourself in danger or take it to the tracks.

The Ninja 250 is responsive and it's quick in the corners and it's really forgiving to newbie mistakes. If you really want a 600cc bike the only one I recommend for newbies is a sv650. Otherwise, learn on a 250, get comfortable with riding and build up your skills.
