I thought traditional takes more work to learn since there are more characters and that by changing to simplified it promoted literacy to those who had trouble learning the traditional characters =/
not to offend anyone who uses simplified, but I too agree that it looks like crap. A lot of characters look like they're missing something in simplified forms.
Yea, I know pretty much China is the only one who uses simplified, but I'm talking about overseas. I know a lot of places and electronic stuff offer both trad and simp, but is there a more common one? Like in overseas chinese schools or communities.
no why would traditional have more characters since it's still chinese.. there are just as much simplified characters there are traditional.. just that only some were "simplified"... which was incredibly stupid because as i have found after learning both (traditional for 10 years and simplified for 3)... they "simplified" all the easy words and kept the hard words the same.. as in it's writen the same way in trad and simp... and the main reason as you stated was to help many into being able to read and write easier as there were lesser strokes and what not.. but that just defied the point when they still kept the words with more strokes the same..
or you can view it as they changed all the common words and kept the less used ones.. but since you're going to be learning both anyway technically.. why not just learn traditional chinese instead

!! it's more "traditional" and you're basically still learning the same thing otherwise how are you going to read sentences properly?? (sorry if i'm beginning to sound angry.. i'm not trying to be biased but i just found learning simplified completely useless and a waste of time when you can learn traditional because it's still "traditional chinese" and you're still getting the same benifits and more out of it)
overseas?? i still think it's traditional.. i live in vancouver and out of the minorities.. chinese is the highest.. and i have still yet to encounter a chinese school teaching simplified rather than traditional
