Posted 29 December 2006 - 02:53 AM
yut yee saam say ng look chut baat gou sup
ng (5) sound should be pronounced like (mmm)
The endings of each number should be short. Like sup (10) should not be pronounced like suppppp.
There is no correct way to write it, but I just try my best to make the sounds with english letters.

I suck at typing, and pingyin so yah. please help me thanks!
'whisper my name three times and i'll be there' (whisper my name three times and i'll appear)
those two are the same meaning right? either one's fine. :]
thanks!
There quite a number of ways to write this in chinese, but i have it here below:
^Chinese:
轻声地呼唤我的名字三次后, 我将会出现。
Han Yu Ping Ying:
Qing Sheng De Hu Huan Wo De Ming Zi San Ci Hou, Wo Jiang Hui Chu Xian.
Literally Meaning:
Lightly whisper my name 3 times later, I will appear.
I am 16 years old and live in the US.
^ Chinese:
我今年十六岁, 住在美国。
Hanyu Pingying:
Wo(3) Jin(1) Nian(3) Shi(2) Liu(4) Sui(4), Zhu(4) Zai(4) Mei(3) Guo(2).
The numbers indicate the four Han Yu Ping Ying sounds.
Literally Meaning:
Im this year 16 years old , living in America.
It is kind of compulsory to explain that you are 16 years old this year.
You'll realise that there is no "and" in this chinese sentence because the comma already served the function for "and".

Download Pimsleur 1,2 ,3 Here
So today , i decided to upload this because i felt that this method is really effective and it is vital for me to share this with all of you who decides to learn mandarin. My first language was cantonese and now I can confidently say that I am 90% fluent in mandarin. Of course, my fluency is not mainly based on the help of these lessons ( I got help from many different mandarin speaking people, mandarin lessons, and even dramas) but it gave me a great start.
Alot of you may have heard of Pimsleur before, and for people who dont know what it is, it is a language acquistition method developed by Dr.Paul Pimsleur.
This mandarin package i uploaded has 3 files, each file containing lessons that are 30 minutes each. ( there are around 90 lessons).
I used to be a person who thought that mandarin was very hard to learn and i consistenly blamed people for not knowing it or having ignorant thoughts towards these mandarin speaking people. i blamed my mom for not teaching me at an early stage of life (she's from beijing), and constantly have negative thoughts towards the chinese media, people etc. So i was basically this ignorant person who was also a chinese illiterate. I would just complain and complain , just like
many people might do instead of putting it into actions. I used to say things like " i hate this mandarin drama"when people ask me why, i would give them lame answers. Deep down in my heart, i might've do like the drama, but it's just that i didnt understand what they're saying ( i couldn't even the subtitles, unless it's like in english)
So one day, i gathered up my thoughts and decided to blame myself for all those lame excuses i made. i searched all over the net, finding ways to learn it. Pimsleur was pretty much the first method i ve bumped into. With 30 minutes a day, i was able to finish the program within 4 months and was also able to speak a decent amount of mandarin. It's not much, but a great start to open up my mouth. I began to watching dramas speaking it with my mom and now still continuning to learn. Trust me people, put some time commitment towards on something you really want.
alright i better stop there because all of these I'm saying is beginning to turn like an advertisement haha = P... but do give it a try.
For those who wants to start Reading and Writing Chinese , this is the golden website:
http://www.cantonese.sheik.co.uk/
This free website is however, based on cantonese, but i think it's still useful if you want to to read or write
chinese in a cantonese way, i dunno.
The best tool inside is the cantodict (Cantonese Dictionary)and the cantodict parser. The cantodict parser allows you to copy and paste a whole chinese article inside a box and it will break down everyone world into a translation or pronuciation like this :

i might also upload the cantonese pimsleur when if i have time !

I was just about to sign up for Chinese (language class), this would be better because I heard they don't teach anything in the class and the instructor is really lazy <_______<
I used to have the Korean one - to expand my crappy Korean vocabulary XD (I blame my dad
But I lost it..
It was saved onto my computer so I didn't care much...
then my computer died because of Trojans...
now I have nothing -_________-
