It's "lan" but some people say it as "nan" (with lazy sound or with an accent) though N and L is interchangable BUT i would keep with the L

She's six years old and very cute. My parents were born in Korea but my mom is Chinese. Most of our relatives were born in Korea, so we are all very used to the Korean culture more than the Chinese. I have a HUGE family, I have many cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. I love having a big family because nothing can be boring.

for "but", there are multiple ways to say it, if you want more variation, I guess.

The word 'but' in Cantonese are as follows:

but go, dan hai

I believe each are used in different situations. Not too sure what exactly.

'Hard' is "lan". I think it can also be pronounced as "nan" but youth nowadays don't pronounce the beginning 'n' in certain words.

Huhm bo would translate as scary or terrible.

Wow, wow! This is the first time I have seen a Chinese thread like this! Ah, it gives me that feeling that I am not alone. I've only started learning Chinese. I have two Mandarin teaching books I've bought from the bookstore. I hoped that I could use it to speak to people in my local Chinatown but everybody speaks Cantonese there! D: I don't know if I am good enough to distinguish between the dialects. When I am in Chinatown, I try to pick up words I have learned but I've had no luck. Hopefully, I can try to pick up some tips here.
