chinese characters:
祝你生日快樂
(x4)

mandarin:
zhu ni sheng ri kuai le
(x4)

cantonese:
juk nei sang yat faai lok
(x4)

well, i'd like to note to those question-askers.
you may have asked for translations for the chinese characters,
but be forewarned that different Asian [mandarin speaking] countries use different versions of chinese.
[e.g: China and Hong Kong uses Traditional Chinese,
while my own country, Singapore, uses Simplified Chinese.]
there is the traditional way of writing and the simplified way of writing.
so if you post up the traditional way of writing,
some people may be unable to read it,
although they do understand the chinese language.
vice versa as for simplified chinese also.
and i noted from the first post that they mentioned Mandarin as a dialect.
i think i'm very sure that Mandarin is the language,
while Cantonese is a dialect.
Chinese is actually what you call the people,
like I'm a Chinese person,
but I speak Mandarin.

please correct me if i'm wrong,
but i was raised in a Chinese cultured [is that how you phrase it?] country,
and Mandarin is my second language.

^ i'm from Singapore too. Hello! happy.gif
Yes, i think Cantonese is a dialect, not language..
same for Hokkien or Teochew, it is also another dialect of Chinese.

And in the same logic, Mandarin is a dialect. It's just the official dialect of the PRC, ROC, HKSAR, MSAR, and Singapore.

Historically speaking, Mandarin is far from the original classical Chinese.

HKSAR = Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

I'm assuming that MSAR is Macau Special Administrative Region.

Haha, I thought it was SARS at first, but then I found out what SAR really meant much later on. xD

黑涩会美眉

I had downloaded this song off of Myspace and that came up as the artist when I imported it into iTunes. I later did a search on Myspace to see if I could find that artist again but I couldn't get any results at all. I do not know a single word in Chinese ... literally ... I know NOTHING and so I was hoping somebody on here might be able to romanize that for me or maybe direct me in a way so that I could find their Myspace again. I tried Googling it but I only got results in Chinese ... which was no help what so ever tongue.gif

hello =)

自有/自由

the two might be grammatically incorrect but i was wondering what exactly they implied? i always thought 由 meant 'first' but it seems wrong in this context. 谢谢=)

RE Psychotic Otaku:
zheng que =正確
&& i think u mean 回頭見?

i think Psychotic Otaku was looking for the simplified version,
that's in Traditional Chinese. :]
just thought you'd like to know.

zheng que = 正确
for the 回托见, i think the '回' and the '见' are right,
im not too sure on the '托' though.

hope this helped!
