^well...what do you not understand about the tones? there are 6 tones. you dont know how to say them? you'll need to find someone that can do a tone drill for you then, because you cant really demonstrate tones through text like this ^^;;

and what do you mean how is the "Q" pronounced at the start of a word?? as far as i know, cantonese romanizations dont even use the letter "Q", atleast none that ive ever seen. are you taking this from mandarin?? o_O

yes, i don't know how to say the tones. when you look at it on the websites, it just looks confusing. (the mandarin tones are much easier(i think))

and for the Q thing, someone romanized a cantonese song for me and there a was a word starting with Q. maybe they mix up the mandarin pronunciation because they didn't know how to write the jyutping of that word.

^ Then you probably need to show that word here
I'm a Malaysian Chinese, I speak Cantonese with my family, but mandarin during school time
because we as pupils are prohibited from speaking any dialect in school.

For quite some time, I can't figure it out why some people find it's hard to learn Cantonese,
as I grow older I just realize how some pronunciation in Cantonese is totally different with Mandarin
Anyway, it is awesome that we use the common character, at least when speech doesn't work, we still can do the communication by a pen with paper ~ XD

it's not very possible to write an english/christian name into chinese; it'll be like, writing an english/christian name into korean where you just sound the name out & use the closest jumble of characters to form the name. for jacequeline, the closest i could get was 甲克玲 (jia3 ke4 ling2).

is it possible to write my friend's name in Chinese? Her name's more asian-ish(can't find a better word sweatingbullets.gif ).
Her name's Xee Yang. (xee=first name & pronounced like the letter 'z'; yang=last name)
i think she wanted the chinese characters for her name to translate into Korean happy.gif

i don't know if i'm right, but i'm just going to give it a shot. i want something to do & i'm sick and bored of studying for gov't.

春晓 dawn of/beginning of spring
春眠不觉晓 ... spring sleep begins unnoticed (it probably means- in spring, you don't notice you're falling asleep)
处处闻啼鸟,sounds of birds chirping (are) heard everywhere
夜来风雨声 at night, (there are) sounds of wind and rain
花落知多少。so many flower (petals) have fallen. (or, i don't know how many flower [petals] have fallen - implying that it was probably a large amount.)

it's definitely about spring or the coming of spring and its atmosphere/'feel'.
i think that since this is a poem, translations will be more like readers' analysis unless the poet specifically explained his piece. the strict meaning of each line depends on how you read/interpret it. i'm wordy- dunno if i made much sense to you.
i might be wrong, so someone please correct me if my version is inaccurate.

hehh, theres no right or wrong one, since its not possible to give you a direct translation. you can just choose whichever one you think sounds the nicest, or matches your name in sound the most happy.gif

(my version would be 奓其僆(ja kay lin) )
