补课 means to miss a class or what??? i know she is talking about the poor wages of english teachers and how most also do translating on the side but what does she mean about english teachers missing classes..?

"我之所以想做导游就是因为喜欢地理"

why is 之 used here?

I think you used the wrong 'de' because when I read it in cantonese, it made no sense. x.x I think it's supposed to be the one i used.

friend: Actually a teachers pay isn't much~~ the tutoring pay is more~~but it's not like every teacher/professional has students to tutor~~most students need tutors in english~~like our english teacher doesn't have tutoring and has another job as translator~~ so if you really only on your pay, it's for sure not gonna work. (I think she meant if you rely only on your teachers pay.). if you focus on high school's english teachers tutoring pay, it's a lot.

I might have some mistranslations in there because her sentence structor is quite weird. x.x that or i suck at chinese.

Can anyone recommend a really good Mandarin learning program? I heard Rosetta stone is supposed to be really good, but are there any other cheaper alternatives? I want something that'll provides substantial grammar, writing/reading, and good practice with tones.
